Comair updates?
I hope that didn't come out to awful wrong!
This may be the wrong answer, but heck, don't answer the phone on your day off. Let them pull from the reserve until its run dry. Unfortunantly, management won't get the message until they see flights canceled because they don't have the correct number of personel to operate. I'm by no means saying do anything illegal. I am saying, however, what motivation do they have to bring pilots back and staff appropriately if they have just enough there that will jump through hoops and/or pick up extra flights to get the job done?

Doesn't matter to management! They don't care and there are no consequences for them if they cancel a flight because of staffing. Comair is not a contract carrier who has to maintain performance numbers, completion factors, etc. Delta can't do anything about it, they are stuck with us.

But sadly, as long as pilots "help out" scheduling via open time, coming in on an off day, etc then the company has no desire to bring people back on line and incur the retraining costs.
Hang on, more negativity coming up...
Nothing better than starting off the week with a nice e-mail from the MEC containing sentences like...
"This last week has been an utter disaster for the operation as management personnel and crew scheduling have continually, intentionally and willfully violated our Collective Bargaining Agreement"
"In fact, we are so understaffed that not only is management attempting to force pilots to fly illegal assignments, but they have also been turning down additional flying opportunities from Delta because we are unable to staff the flying that we have now."
"Your MEC has learned that management and scheduling are already looking at the possibility of junior manning pilots into Tuesday, April 13th due to our critical staffing levels"

Until March 2, 2011. Fleet Guarantee expires, Mesaba starts hiring, CVG closes, and the final act before they close the doors is to have the last maintenance guy go around with the last van and scrape the word COMAIR off the planes while the Mesaba crews stand by with new registration slips to fly them to DTW and MSP. Not a slam on XJ pilots, by the way. It's not their fault our crews are "too experienced".
But yes, in a way Delta is stuck with us until then.

I certainly agree with you about not answering your phone on off days and anybody that does is a fool. Other ways I believe they can junior man is by flagging you on the RIDS and eMaestro when you go to check out with the "Call Scheduling" forcing you to talk to them and accept the junior man as long as its a legal assignment.
