I think the thread was just to see who has had an opportunity to fly, not who has a job. People may have jobs, and still not stay current flying. Or, they may get to fly sometimes, to stay current.
I think you need to look at where someone lives, then determine their employment opportunities. If you live in KY or OH, the job market is in a sad state. I live in Florida and the job market in FL is pretty non-existent (and the jobs available are low pay). I think Michigan would be a horrible place to try to look for work!

As for the answer to the original thread: Furloughed 1/2009, flown around 600 hours since furlough.

Hoy Cow!! What a great idea!!! Why didn't you post this sage wisdom months ago, so my family would be in better financial shape.

Since you, "...spent the 10 years wasting away at ComAir before getting hired by DAL", you were here during the strike, and that advice would have been appropo then, but not in today's environment.

Here's a clue (since you are employed and have no idea what it's like right now); you spend most of your days checking Monster, HotJobs, Usajobs, Craigslist, etc. looking for something that isn't a "work-from-home" scam, and fill out applications/send resumes. Get dressed in a suit, go to the most promising ones in person, and even though you know they're hiring for a job you might be qualified for, one of two outcomes seems to be the trend; HR has 100 applicants for 1 job, or they act like your resume is loaded with Anthrax and won't touch it. Call some jobs listed as "General Labor", and find the position filled hours ago (even though it only paid around min. wage). Call freinds and acquaintances who've been avoiding you lately because they know you're "keeping in touch" because you want a job. Go home to family, try not to let it affect your attitude, and spend evenings on APC in the hopes ComAir might call you back to the crappy-paying job you just happened to love for some sick reason.

Sorry if this rant is offensive to you, but I love advice to "just get a job" when even WalMart greeters are getting laid-off.

How long did it take him to find a job? The people on here talking about unemployment running out have been looking for work.

Your rant is not offensive to me, it is well suited. My point is, I am tired of people sitting at home collecting a check just for having a resume on Monster. If a person needs a job as bad as you all seem to, they can find one. Most of the people that can't find a flying job on here think they are too good for Colgen or Great Lakes. This makes me wonder, maybe of those that got hired with less then 1000 hrs weren't so lucky. And I was at Comair during the strike, the dumbest work stoppage in history. Well at least the planes got cleaned.

He is a manager at some pep boys or something and he got the job with in 3 mos of furlough. He didnt wait around wondering when he will get called back. My simple advice to those of you that lost your flying job and I am sorry for being blunt, but dont wait for Comair or any other flying job. Just the other day I flew with a FNWA CA that was let go at Eastern, then he found another non-flying job only to be hired at NWA 5 yrs later. I know things maybe different now, job market wise, but things weren't the best in the mid 80's to 90's either.

The Comair strike was the dumbest work stoppage in history? Uhhh are you on, or have you ever smoked crack?

Those guys and gals were ballsy and vaginasy(not a real word, I know)to do that. I strongly disagree with your assertation that it was dumb. Do you realize for the level of money invested into the education and that horrid pay, that those folks that were a part of that strike were getting sodomized?!!!

From what I gather there was minimal gain from the pre-strike TA, to the post strike TA. I wasn't here at the time so I won't/can't tell you if it was smart or dumb.

Just wondering, after reading the latest ALPA rag (I had to go potty and there was nothing else to read), for those that will still be at Comair when the contract negotiations start:

How many of you think the pilot group will take concessions?

How many think that the MEC will cave to management?

How many of you think that the pilot group will get ANY concessions on the part of management?

How many of you think that the pilot group will get ANYTHING close to what they gave away to management during the bankruptcy?

If promised anything, how many of you think management will just renege on their promises anyway?

How many of you have made origami swans out of your ALPA ragazine?
