I know what you mean, they could have done a lot more to bring people back. One thing I can think of is "Part-time Lines"

What are you doing these days Jesse, are u back in the US?

Just got back. I was living in Argentina for a few months.

Gotta a pretty sweet handle bar mustache going... wonder if they would make me trim it down?

it's been a while, but the union has taken this to the company before. If memory serves, the company rejected it because they wanted part-timers to lose their medical benefits and the union objected. I also remember hearing a CP say management thought it would be bad PR if word got out that we had part-time pilots. whatever.

There are tons of things the company could do to make life easier on our crews. Even Scheduling wants more of you guys back on line than what we've recalled. But the union/Scheduling don't make those decisions.

In addition to benefits being a sticking point, part time lines do not work. There is nothing "part time" about them. Look at our FAs. They have "part time" lines yet they work 3 4-day trips with a few 2 or 3 day trips thrown in there just to get their lines up to min line value for part time flying.

So essentially, they are "part time" with no benefits working almost a full schedule all month long.

It takes two parties to sign an agreement. Unfortunately, the union can not just unilaterally implement a Letter of Agreeement.

Hello Everybody.

So what's going on?. I see somebody asking for memory items to review, people milling about the word "recall", Jesse sporting a 70s gay porn 'stach, and Trail not droping his wisdom like it is his poop (thank god). But so far, I still don't know/understand what really is going on. Someone please bring me up to par here. Thanks.

What has been determined as everyone knows, is JFK is def. closed as of Sept 1st. Thats decided right now. DTW is opening, I specifically asked certain questions as of growth, aircraft at which location, new bids, etc...Answer was everything is possible as of right now...LOTS going on. Those who know me from a few years ago know I pretty much was accurate on my info.
For what its worth, nothing has changed from what we already know, NY closing an DTW opening, however there seems to be a slight and I mean slight indication that there may be good news.

Until then it is all rumor and conjecture and this place has a habit of changing its mine from day to day, hour to hour.
Of course nothing is definite, the fact remains an announcement was "suppose" to be announced yesterday, and it was not as I was told. It should be next week. JFK is closing, at least as a crew base from what he advised and DTW is "for right now" looking to open. Thats the consensus from that departments strategic planning. You are correct in the history of this airlines change of mind, however even in the process of uncertain times and changes, as in the hiring of 300 then furloughing 300 pilots a few summers ago, I was advised those 300 to be hired were never gonna happen by same person. This was during the "good times". So I do hold a little faith in his info, as he along with many others is directly involved. In any case, my point was mainly to point out that an announcement was not going to be made which it wasn't. And that there seems to be a glimmer of good news on the horizon. Whether it develops or not, remains to be seen, nonetheless the fact it is even being considered is somewhat refreshing. I hope DTW does come, makes your life easier.. along with many others I'm sure.
