Were they just hired recently, as in the past few weeks? I haven't heard of anyone. I know we had some go to VA, but that was months
ago.

I spoke to an FO the other day that got the nod from jetBlue. He had no class date as of yet.

Virgin has a pool going right now. They are planning to start classes again in July or August, and should do 16 a month for a while.

Delta will start hiring in August and says they have a need for 300 pilots.

Anyone that gets the job at any of these companies likely hasn't given their notice at Comair yet. I don't think Comair has any plan other than a guess at how many will be leaving.

The question is, did they allow for this attrition or only for the attrition of those that quit that are furloughed?

It is both. They are expecting attrition for current and future hiring in the industry and they are expecting some no-shows for classes, specifically the August class.

Considering the guys that got hired for "Freedom's contract termination" were often 250TT pilots who ended up flying for a regional airline without flight instructing/flying cargo/doing any flight job whatsoever. I'm not sure in the end they were screwed over all that much.

From today's union email:

Additional Recalls:
Today, Comair will be sending out 48 additional recall notices. This recall is for current and anticipated attrition. The expected return-to-work date for these pilots is August 15.

So, you are saying because Freedom hired low-time guys (Comair has too by the way), it is ok that the majority of Freedom/Mesa guys are getting furloughed? You do realize that the ONLY reason we are recalling is because Freedom Air is getting their contract terminated and DL needed someone to cover their butt? I really have to scratch my head every time I read one of your posts on here....

Why such animosity toward non-CFI or cargo guys? I was never a CFI, I never flew for any cargo company. I did fly for a DZ and still do, before I got hired at Comair. What exactly is with this "paying your dues"? It almost sounds like people get jealous because others got to the airline industry a little faster. I feel like i payed my dues. Not because I had a flying job at a DZ, flying a piece of crap plane that I had more than one emergency in, but because I payed for my flight school by deploying on several combat deployments with the infantry.

I don't think that's what he was saying at all. We hired 250-300 pilots in anticipation of Delta terminating the Freedom contract a few years ago. He wasn't talking about the Freedom pilots at all.
