Ok, just my 2 cents.

They are letting the newhire classes of June 23rd and prior stay in training for two reasons.

1.) If Daddy Delta wins the trial for Mesa or Pinnacle(doubtful on the Mesa front, though I wish it were already done.)

2.) They have already purchased the SIM time for those in this class. Why not let them finish the SIM training that way there are no worries in the event that a lot of senior people were to take voluntary furloughs/Cola's. The downside is that the footprint from day 1 of indoc until IEO is 89 days. There is less than 89 days for someone who started on the 23rd. It doesn't stop there though. You must get 100 hrs in the first 120 days following your checkride in type. If you don't, you will be back through the entire training. Not sure when each of you was hired so you need to do the math on your own.

As for those who are optomistic about senior people taking voluntary furloughs/colas, I have another thought. During the bankruptcy they were telling people that they wouldn't be furloughed for long. Told most that they would be back on property within 3 months. This time though, nobody knows how long the furlough will be. It could be for 2 years. We could get spun off by then. I don't see senior people jumping into that pool this time. What happens if a senior guy gets furlough and is not called back within a year. He or she might look for work elsewhere, but they won't be current anymore. I do believe senior guys will eat up the colas because they are time specific. We'll see how many of those the company puts out and how long they are.

As for you junior guys.... Let's say you are within the bottom 150. Say you plan on senior guys taking leave and you don't voluntarily take a furlough. You may get furloughed anyway and not have any benefits. Not sure about you, but bennies are huge during a time of uncertanty.

Good luck with your decisions.

Anybody else ****ed that they canceled the trivia? That was the only reason I dialed in!
Before they closed down the ALPA webboard I was working on my own Comair Jeopardy trivia bit.

Some of my categories were going to be:
  • Comair CEOs
  • Hotel Hyjinx
  • Look Who's parking at Concourse C
  • Things we'll trade for pizza
But alas, it was not to be.

So now I have to pay $20 to the union and money to the company that I was not planning on. Guess I'll be cancelling my internet and stealing the neighbors wireless.

One other thing to consider is that the last time Comair furloughed a displacement bid was issued to fill vacancies over in JFK. Some of our junior FOs went to JF'nK. This time around could of course be different based on how the distribution of junior FOs between CVG/JFK is but it's something to consider.

I think we can work out lowering the min line value and voluntary COLA's for a few months until attrition and winter holiday flying picks up. By then Mesa will have lost the lawsuit and some of the flying should be back.

If I win you can hold off on the biscoffs though.

Okay, a coupleof things are wrong with the "logic" being thrown around on this about furloughs.

First, the 2600 reduction. We just hired a bunch of people and now we'll have less hours. When I was on reserve in JFnK for the month of May, I didn't get called once. Not ONCE! So now you add more pilots into that mix something's gotta give.

Second, attrition. NO ONE IS LEAVING RIGHT NOW. There aren't the choices out there today like there were yesterday. In fact, when the last vacancy bid was cancelled, one of the reasons stated was the lack of attrition.

Third, oil will continue to skyrocket. Our inept congress went on summer vacation without passing any crappy legislation to try and reign in the speculators. Not to mention Green Bean Almadean (the president of Iran) just announced his plan to try and own the straights of hormouth(sp) and so the summer and holiday should see oil much higher.

So what's the net.......we don't know JACK!

On JFK reserves, up until an hour ago I would have agreed with you. But i just checked my email and it said that both CVG and JFK 50 seat staffing levels are critical. So basically most reserves are out flying today.

And what we know....you're absolutely correct. Ladies and gentlemen, we might furlough. We might not. The only thing we know for sure: WE DON'T KNOW. Have we all forgotten that just about everything that starts with "a checkman once told me..." "I heard in ground school that..." or "my sim instructor just told me..." is just hearsay. How many of us "heard a sim instructor" say that we were definitely going to have signing bonuses. They started hiring 300 pilots this summer, yet there was no talk of signing bonuses.

Let's just wait for some official announcements.

Where was everyone on the green team announcement? Nobody heard that from their crashpad's cousin's brother's former roommate? I'd consider that to be a fairly big annoucement on the state of CVG.

Default just some of the rumors I have heard since I started

The founders where buying Comair back.

The owner of the Reds was going to buy Comair.

We were going to open a Boston base.

We were closing Orlando (okay that one was true)

Signing bonuses for new hires (we actually had people wanting to leave and get rehired for the bonus) I know....first year FO pay is one step above paying cash to be in the right seat.

Delta is going to relax scope after the merger and Comair will be receiving the CRJ1000

Today's rumors:

Furloughs and the how many....

Delta to just liquidate Comair because they already took the write off.

70/90's are going to JFK.

Post merger there won't be any separate operations.....it will all be run from Atlanta.

Oh and we need to pay $240 each to protect ourselves from our own union. Sorry RJTP, i had to throw that one in there.

I'm sure I've missed quite a few. Feel free to add your own.
