I guess I'll run over to my neighbor who has been furloughed four times already and cry to him about how I MIGHT get furloughed.

Anyway, I had enough of this thread and I'm done posting on here...

No no no, you and this thread have too much history too leave, sniff sniff. :(

Seriously though, let's all think happy thoughts. It would be stupid to think we are not going to get furloughed and not plan for the worst, but on the other hand we might get lucky so there is always hope. We shouldn't fret too much. I think about the worst that could happen and that doesn't sound so bad. You have a neighbor who has been through this four times and I have heard of worse so we know getting furloughed isn't the end. So, I suppose we'll just deal with it and move on. I am in favor of a "We are all ******ed!" party though. :D

Thankfully.

Although I hate to admit that he does have a valid point. Work until you have the letter in hand.

On the other hand, it never hurts to have a list of options. I have mine.

wow...someone cant handle someone disagreeing with them looks like.....relax man, nobody is gonna care with that attitude
i mean seriously what would we do without hearing about how much you got last night, and how your avatar is so hot... you COULD however do what a forum provides us all to do, comment and discuss information. there's a concept

Welcome to Comair. Embrace the suck.

Did anyone one think about how did they come up with this number? 300 pilots sounds like a lot of pilots. How many hours of flying did we lose to have to let 300 pilots go? 300 pilot time 80 hours each is 24000 hours. Does not make any sence to me, but what do I know.

I haven't been out with you guys yet, but if you're gonna have one of these drink away the furlough parties count me in and keep me posted!

I wonder how permanent something like this would be. In the summer of '09 there will be more flying (God willing) and we will know more about the merger and how it will affect the regionals

Does anyone else think that this could just be a strategy to
1.) scare senior guys to taking buy outs by threatening an insane amount of reductions

or

2.) give "notice" to a crap load of pilots even though they don't really know how many they're going to actually furlough..just to keep themselves covered to stay within contract

or any other sneaky things?

I do not think this is done to scare any of the senior pilots to take an early out. This does not affect them in anyway. Senior pilots are so high up on the seniority list there is now way they will get furloughed. Senior pilots do not care if all the people below them lose their job. I do not think a single senior pilot will take the early out to save someone’s job unless it benefits them if a big way.
Your second point might be valid though. I hope the 300 number is a high number or the max they are expecting. The company might want to tell us the worst case scenario that way if the number is lower, no one will complain.
