I'm not a noob; I have been working in this business for a few years. I am currently employed by an airline. I don't plan on staying at a regional forever, I just want to get some jet time.
Now are there any pilots out there who can let me know how long the new FO's are sitting on reserve at their airline?

I understand what you are getting at as far as the rudeness goes. im still flightinstructing and paying my dues. I was once told I would never make it because I had a speeding ticket. There are some very bitter people out there because they get no breaks and I guess missery loves company

I still work 12 hour days on a regular basis, but they're much easier at the airlines. In between flights, you can usually eat, sleep and talk to friends, so it doesn't really feel like you're working. Plus, at my airline we get paid the whole time we're on the ground too, so that's a plus.
sorry for so many questions but i'm old and bitter.

now, seriousness aside, have you noticed that the "younger generation" seem to regard dues-paying, at least as far as flying is concerned, as some sort of quaint idea from the far-gone days? i have. the problem is that when you don't pay dues by actual flying, you really don't have much experience to bring to the table. flight automation is a dual-edged sword; on one hand, it makes our jobs easier (sometimes), and on the other, it can allow old-fashioned skills to deteriorate because we don't have to figure holding patterns or fly raw-data NDB crosswind approaches anymore. because the job now seems so "easy", a lot of guys on these boards think it's easier than it is. wait until all that pretty automation disappears one dark and stormy night and see how well they do.
i'm actually not an old and bitter guy. well, old, maybe. true, i hate flying now and despise my airline and the TSA but i have enough outside interests that occupy my time for me not to dwell on it. that being said, it grates my jaws when i read about some youngster on here who thinks 6 months on reserve is beneath him or that 300 hours is actual experience. my response is usually, "when you have about 3000 hours in all kinds of weather and equipment, come back and see me." i may hate flying but i still have the utmost respect for the piloting profession. guys with the attitudes previously mentioned have NO appreciation of the profession itself or even of the skill of piloting. it's just some new and hopped-up version of the video games they grew up on. the pinnacle guys who flamed-out their RJ and crashed come to mind. it was all a big game... until it wasn't.

oh, hey, daytona, by the way, years ago when i was paying dues, i flew the canyon for air nevada. hand-flown, single pilot in c-402's, six days a week, 7.5 hours of flying per day. i was on salary; i made 18k a year. so i guess i got paid to "sit around between flights", too.

Bill, what is your problem? I am almost speechless at the level of venon spewing from your trap. I would have to agree with some of the others that you should just leave this board since you obviously have NOTHING constructive to contribute. Its all crying about "paid to trian" youngsters and how nobody wants to pay dues anymore. As a captain for many years now with more hours than you have, I must say, if you hate flying so much do us all a favor and LEAVE! Take one of your "numerous" hobbies and make a career out of it. You must be just an absolute joy to be on a 4 day trip with. So you came up the ranks the hard way...so did I. The respect I had for you for doing that rapidly dwindled to nothing listening to your **** poor attitude. You rag on these younger guys bringing down the industry pay yet you still are voluntarily working for the very same men who you loath. Put your money where your mouth is and again, LEAVE. These young guys are just trying to make their way as a pilot. I don't agree with pay to train but I certainly have no need to be an ***hole about it. Grow up man.
