There are way too many pilots, planes, and airlines these days. GL flys absolutely ridiculous routes, I don't care if it's bottom-pay EAS routes or not. So many redundant routes and airplanes that being an airline pilot has become a fairly poor career route, because there is way too little demand and too much supply. While I don't want anyone to lose jobs, fewer airlines and planes is the only way I see it improving, otherwise the airlines will always be able to find the "lowest bidder" pilots to fill their ranks. Ticket prices are crazy low and costs are crazy high for fuel, maint, planes, etc. Every airline either barely scrapes by or gets undersold by the next guy to pop up. Unless some of them die off, the industry won't get any better. At some point we decided that having jobs was more important than having good jobs. I'm not going to argue against or for that, but I am going to say at that point we had no leverage against anything, given RLA and how the industry works.

Keeping it classy I see, coming on here and bashing the company and pilot group, yet you jumpseat on us, clearly meaning you rely on us to get you from point A to point B. By the posts you have posted on here, it seems you would rather see pilots go elsewhere and in turn would rather see the company shut down and all of our pilots out of a job. If that is the case, you might want to consider renting a car from now on and driving on that route that you jumpseat on, after all, if we shut down, that is the only way you could get to your destination. I'm not saying you are not welcome on my flight and on my jumpseat, I am just saying consider the implications if you had it your way and Lakes ceased operations tomorrow!

Lakes didn't settle their debt, they broke down the ballon payment into multiple payments, with higher interest rates and many more fees than before but Raytheon still the providing the financing as well as the larges stock holders of GLA. I am not bashing the Lakes pilot group. You need to get your facts straight! What I said was don't come here thumping your chest about how you are going to make a stand when is out of your hand, unless of course everyone quits!

That is incorrect once again! Perhaps this news article will clear everything up!
Great Lakes Refinances, Ends Raytheon Ownership

And when you post crap like "Been negotiating a cotract for how long now, most people at lakes weren't on property when they started negotiations, sure to make a stand" yeah, that is pretty much bashing the group. Just because the company has high turnover rate and has a pretty junior pilot group, does not mean we are not united in taking a stand towards the company. In a matter of fact, lots of the junior guys I fly with have more of a drive to strike then some of the senior guys at this place! Just shows what you know, or little you know about our pilot group!

You are right, I got my facts incorrect!

I agree with a lot of what you said except ticket prices being too low. They are the highest they have been in a long time. 500-1000 roundtrips for domestic flights are the most common. For some reason, these airlines still can not make enough money to go around, I just don't get it.

The airline with the lowest fares (Greyhound, .... or Southwest) still manages to fair the best and pays their employees a decent wage. Once again, I just don't get it.

Its been 10 days since the interview have any other candidates heard anything either way?

Starting Class October 8th

I just got the call start training Oct 8th in Cheyenne, WY for the Embraer 120 Brassilla.

Thank you for everyone's input. For the other Great Lakes pilots on this forum I look forward to meeting you all and working with you.

EMB120IP 09-24-2012 06:14 PM

Nice. Congrats. If you have any questions regarding the packet you get emailed, send me a PM. You need 10 posts to be able to PM if you didn't know.

Bscalis 09-24-2012 07:59 PM

I haven't received the packet from HR yet should get it tomorrow. I'm sure I will have questions. I was told I will be at Williston after training. I cant find anywhere to stay. The prices are ridiculous. Do you know of anyone with a crashpad up there?

Well, I think the crash pad may have some room, you can PM me about that if you want..

But don't put all your eggs in one basket here... we are getting out of Williston in November, aren't we EMB120IP?

Boldened because I'm digging for information and going to continue to lie to myself until proven otherwise...
