This incident occurred near the end of a runway change, so we could put the airport into a two dept rwy configuration to make your corporate parents happy. The controller was trying to remove the backlog of depts from 31l so we could switch to land 22l and dep 22r and 31l.

As to your thought that I would have no problem writing you up if you landed with out a landing clearance. It is an opinion that is missinformed that will reflect poorly on your co. Whenever I have an ac on final to my runway and don't get a response to a landing clearance, I clear the ac to land multiple times and ask for an ident to acknowledge the receipt of transmission and if all else fails will clear the ac to land on 121.5. So my opinionated pal if I wanted to write you up I wouldn't bother to go through that whole exercise and I could merely pick one of your daily taxi mistakes.
Under your name you need to put your position is a JFK controller. Sometimes there are questions or thoughts that could use a controllers input. Your expertise would be greatly welcomed. I haven't seen you before so I just wanted to say welcome to the forum.

I must say I really do not approve of the controller's tone and lack of proper phraseology when he's telling CHQ to DO THIS QUICKLY, DO THIS QUICKLY.

Saying the word expedite once is appropriate; the controller need not waste airtime telling a plane that is on the landing rollout about how bad everything was all afternoon. They already know that stuff anyway.

I understand the short staffing problem all over the country yet the only place where it seems to be a cause of controller rudeness is the NYC airports. I have to believe then, that it is not really related to staffing as the rest of the country is short staffed too.

Whoa there killer, calm your jets. Saying that the controller wasn't unprofessional in this clip would be like saying George W. Bush is a genius....it just ain't true.

So you mean to tell me that a runway change in this instance is made only to please corporate department heads at the airlines? You have a lot to learn. For one, I was always under the impression that it is part of the Controller's, and the FAA's job to make things run as efficiently and safely as possible. Isn't that basic customer service? The FAA/controllers/airport is the provider, and the tax paying airlines, and ultimately the tax paying passengers are the customers? I'm pretty sure I read that somewhere.

Yes, we hear every day that there are staffing shortages in the ATC world. Well, guess what, welcome to life. That's part of the industry. Even at the airlines. Most of us have taken pay cuts, work on our days off, less vacation, etc. But, ya know what, when we're in that cockpit, we try to leave it all behind us and get the job done. Being unprofessional on a daily basis, which has been my experience at JFK (I have plenty of stories), just isn't helping the situation.

Some of you need to grow some thicker skin and deal with a controller raising his voice at you. I'm pretty sure that most of you current and former instructors and captains have used less than professional language with a student or FO who is making the same mistakes over and over. I for one can't understand why they don't yell at us more considering how many times we goof a readback or straight up miss a call. And if this controller was as short and "unprofessional" as some of you think, I doubt he would have handled it as camly and efficiently as he did. If fact it sounds like the United crew was more irritated than anyone.

The Singapor A380 went off the runway...when the tug that was pulling it onto the runway had a mechanical problem, nothing to do with the other runway excursions.

Bummer. IMO, go-arounds, missed approaches, and diversions, or hearing the loud voice of ATC for operating safely are just not that big of a deal.
