Default Got a call from SkyWest today, but................

Well folks, it's official. Got the unfortunate call from training that the CRJ new hire class I was scheduled for on 7/14 was postponed indefinitely. I am bummed out but happy in another way. I am happy that I am hired by a company that has great management and can make good decisions that are in the best interest of our pilots, especially those that have been "on-property" already. I know I will have an opportunity to attend class at a future date, and I was smart enough not to burn the bridge with my current employer. I feel for the folks who may have already left a job to go to training.

I assume the next step will be to cut back hours to keep from having to start the "big F". We are overstaffed on the CRJ but hurting on the Brasilia, so my question is what will they do about that? Will they send some co-pilots back to the Brasilia? Would they, or could they fly two Brasilia captains together.

PS- $10 bucks says we can't keep on the subject for 7 pages!

You’re jumping the gun, just because they cancelled a class doesn't mean we're going to Furlough and displace pilots. Remember Mgmnt started cancelling classes last fall and they've cancelled every CRJ class up until the June class (they had one scheduled every 3 weeks). They're just trying to have some foresight, something that they’ve been very good at…………………………….mostly………………………….ya.

My guess is that they will just continue to do what they’ve been doing for the past 4 months. They’ll run EMB classes when they need to and if they need RJ FO’s then they’ll run transition classes. This will help to keep moral high (EMB FO’s get to move over to the RJ and make more money) and new hires happy seeing that they will actually work on the EMB.

Like I’ve said several times on here (dating back to Q1), with the direction the industry is headed and how we are staffed, I wouldn’t expect another RJ new hire class until late 08 or even early 09 (could be later). JMHO.

Jay,

I think you misunderstood. Didn't mean to insinuate furloughs were going to happen, just what the next step may be to prevent them. Also, wasn't being sarcastic about our management. I think they are doing a great job!!!

Sorry if I came off wrong, you know how the printed word can be misunderstood. I feel that SKW has been trying to prevent furloughs for some time now. We've been overstaffed on the CRJ since last fall while our RJ flying as continued to decline. I'm happy to see how proactive our Mgmnt team is and how willing they are to dip into the bank (I think we’re near $1B) to keep their employees employed. But if Midwest completely goes under or cancels our contract in hole and UAL continues to decrease our flying as well as DAL then I see no other alternative but to F a few hundred pilots.

BTW, you obviously know me…………………do I know you? If I do and I’m drawing a blank then forgive me, it’s 11:30 pm and my little girl finally went to bed.

Funny, I just got an email from CS today asking for EMB FO's to pick up reserve time for the next 5 days because they have no reserve (Nothing new there). I don't think they will be sending our class back to the line after we have finished the first week of class, but you never know? There is to many people in class that aren't even qualified anymore without having to go back for a PC check before they can hit the line again.

I was also suppose to start SkyWest ground school, got the call this morning informing me of Monday's (7/7) Brasilia ground school is cancelled. I understand why but this is ridiculous, the last business day before I was suppose to leave. I have no job and I am not sure what to do. If they could have given me at least an extra week to try to keep a job or find something else.
