That’s 36+ years of no furloughs, but if things really take a turn for the worst then they will and they will do it with a very…………………….very heavy heart.

In my opinion…………………….and keep in mind that this is just my opinion……………………SKW won’t furlough seeing that we will back fill some of the voids felt from UAL pulling their 73’s out. Also look for our EMB flying to slowly increase as AE, Horizon and XJT pull out of west coast markets. I’m not saying that I’m happy about it or that SKW is an equal replacement, in a lot of ways we are not (mainly speaking about XJT), but their Co.'s have decided to pull out and for the community we are service and no a/c can do it cheaper than the EMB @ SKW. JMHO, no attacks.

BTW, I was told by Mgmnt that both of our new routes into OR from SFO are profitable with less than 8 people on board and that’s with $4.14/gal gas. Yesterday I hauled 15 up to LMT and 30 out this morning (YES that was 30 adults). I was also told that SBA to SJC is profitable with 5 Pax on board. So the EMB's going nowhere for a very......very long time. Or at least until they find a solid replacement.
SJC-SBA
1000lbs Fuel burn - 620$
Crew of 3 -125$
Landing fees ?
MX Costs?
Oil?
Ground Crew?
Lost Bag fees?
what are these 5 pax paying to make this profitable??

I ran the numbers as well and only Mgmnt truly knows but my posting comes straight from the mouth of CC. I have no clue what they are paying but since it’s mainly business men and taking into account the price of gas and time at the wheel minus a connection, I'm sure it's a bit higher than we'd expect.

Yes, I agree, the Mx cost on the EMB's are increasing every month and only time will tell. I'm positive that Mgmnt is already actively looking for a replacement but it won't come before 2011.

I couldn't find a r/t under $523 on United.com. I guess there are just enough people who are too important to drive and not important enough to have their own plane.

Maybe we should give them some pretzels for their 1/2K investment?

The earliest you'll see the EMB's come fully off line will be 2011 (that’s 3.5 years away) and expect Mgmnt to start bringing in a solid replacement, before then, so that they can maintain their at-risk flying in low cost a/c.

Thank you, so that's $261.5 one way X 5 people = $1307.50 minus taxes. Sure prices can vary but anywhere near that rate more than makes the Bro either profitable or break even.

BTW, the last time I flew the turn I carried 15 up and 18 back, burned 1990 (1020 up and 970 back) lbs of fuel and it took 2:15 (1:10 up and 1:05 back) minutes. That’s a very nice profit even by mainline standards.

People who are in training right now have reported on the company forums that training is just postponed - not cancelled for the july/aug classes - they said there was no hotel space available due to4 big outdoor shows running in the SLC area right now. Take this info as third hand... I have no idea if it is true but that's the third time I've read that posted by somebody as hearing it directly from the head of training.

I have a question for you skywest folks, how many of you are just planning on making skywest your career? It seems like they have always treated you good and the more and more seniority you build, it probably gets harder to leave.

I'm surely considering it. Either staying or getting out of this biz completely. The only viable places to leave here for are SouthWest, UPS, FEDEX, NetJets - Maybe and just Maybe Delta? That's a gamble. Or overseas - even that is a gamble and quite a big step for people with familys.
And, good luck getting hired at those above mentioned places..
I find that it's about 50/50 here at SKYW the guys that plan on staying..Once you establish some senority - your making a decent living - getting weekends and holidays off - why go someplace that's gonna take 4-7 years just to recoup lost wages AND be stapled to the bottom of a senority list that moves as slow as a snail....Pretty depressing state were in right now.

I was scheduled to be in the July 7th Brasilia class. It was not cancelled due to lack of hotels. There was a hotel reserved and it was cancelled on July 3rd. The explanation was they were fearful of what is happening in the industry. SkyWest expects to train us but wants to wait and train us until they are confident they can keep us on without a furlough in the near future. Mainly they are fearing Delta and United to do some cuts in their flying. I believe they are being conservatie and wise. It sucked to get the call after I had already quit my job but understood and accepted their justification. We are all in a pool with no class date and no clue when or if we will be trained. My fear is this is exactly what Express Jet said to a friend of mine in their pool last year around Sept/Oct. He never made it to ground school and would have been furloughed even if he did. As solid as SkyWest is, they are not immune to the bad economy. Express Jet was thought to be solid last summer and everyone thought I was a fool for not applying when I met their minimums and held out for SkyWest. My hope is that SkyWest will prosper and have us in training by the end of the year. That is just me being an optimist and no information to back this up.
