Got a call from SkyWest today, but................

Who's moral? There are many-many CRJ FOs, including myself, who were hired in the last year, and can't see much to be excited about. We were sold on an idea that there was to be "600 new FOs in 08" (a direct quote from the recruiter at the open house), and we would be holding bases of our choice, and possibly a line by now. Well, 8 months of reserve later and I am stuck in a domicile far away from home, and actually moving backwards on the CRJ seniority list due to the EMB120 guys and gals moving over to the jet side. It seems the company sees the need to freeze transfers until further hiring resumes, but keep moral high for the EMB pilots? I feel like a bathmat for the other pilots who paid their dues in the Bro. I understand my place on the seniority list. It's just that I have no moral for the immediate future, and don't understand why SKW is stuffing more pilots into the jet right now. BTW, I did bid for a transition down into the EMB, and was frozen till later this year.
Buddy that's your problem/fault not theirs, the fact is that things change and if you think that recruiters are managerial decision makers then you need to open your eyes. An internal or external recruiters/headhunters job (my wife was one for 8+ years) at any company is to fill positions based upon projections given to them by Mgmnt. Projections that can and do change DAILY! Back when you were hired oil wasn't $145/barrel and we were working on many other deals. Things change and if you can't handle this cyclical industry then you need to get out and get out now.
As for my morale comment, moving RJ FO's down to the EMB will allow them to actually fly, it will solve out EMB FO shortage without adding more pilots to a slightly bloated pilot list which BTW would increase the chances of us furloughing. Those who choose to move over will no longer have to sit reserve seeing that new hire EMB FO's from the April 08 (the last RJ new hire class was what.....January?) class already have solid lines which will lead to them being home more with better QOL………thus helping to maintain or improve morale. Also keep in mind that MANY RJ FO’s would and will jump at the chance to move over to the EMB in order to hold a line with more days off, be closer to home and have the opportunity to get holidays off. Or would you rather be furloughed or about to be furloughed like those at Aloha, Big Sky, ATA, MaxJet, EOS, CAT, Horizon, PSA, Air Wisconsin, Xtra, SkyBus, SkyWay, Midwest, TSA, AA, AE, US, UAL, AirTran, CAL, XJT, RAH, MAG, F9, etc.... Thus if you were anywhere esle you'd be closer to being out on the street if now already on the street.
You need to get off you selfish high horse and check your attitude at the door. You have a job with a very......very good airline that will do everything they can in order to not furlough. Just remember that, for your seniority, you are in the best possible position/situation you could be in right now.
Good Day, best wishes and say hello to my good friend CG who is sitting reserve with you, who has a hire date of Nov 07 and has no clue when he'll be able to hold a line in ORD. But hey, that's life with the airlines so get used to it.

Last time I looked NEITHER RAH or XJT had put anybody on the street YET. Lets not throw the baby out with the bath water just yet.......
I know it sucks to commute across the country but it is hard to have sympanthy for you when so many pilots that have much more seniority in their company are getting furloughed. I think you should be grateful to have a job. Enjoy being a bathmat and getting a paycheck. Republic and Express Jet gave their pilots the same projections last year and now they are on the street. Both really good companies that people thought were safe around the time you were hired at SkyWest. You obviously chose SkyWest over them for a reason.
Who knows why SkyWest is sending more pilots to the jet. Maybe they are expecting some more flying on that end and haven't announced it. I truly think they will benefit leaps and bounds if a regional goes under and are ready to pick up the flying. I think that is what they are preparing for. You might get your wish but hang tight and enjoy the commute for a little longer.
Hopefully I will be the bathmat soon and I will be so grateful.

Note: Don't take this personal, it's just a simple posting and nothing more.

I think that having 4 EMB bases within a stones throw of my house would have worked out a lot better for me. The CRJ thing was just poor timing.
good luck to you all.

Wow, now I'm really confused. The morale issue was in regards to your comment about EMB pilots being upgraded into the CRJ for "morale", not the other way around. This is one of those times that most people would jump on the defensive, but I don't have the energy to bicker. I know that SKW is the best regional, I understand how reserve works, and I know that I'm not the only commuter around. I wanted to just let it be known that morale is low right now and I'm not alone. If I am selfish, on a high horse, and have an attitude because I want to be closer to my family, see my son more, and not live in two cities at the same time while I slip deeper and deeper into a big hole of debt, then I am ok with these tags. It's just sad to see a grown man resort to cheap shots and name calling. Jet Jock, grow-up.

Don’t whine about a bad situation when you should have done your homework. You should have known better, as a “grown man” with a family, than to take someone else’s word as gospel. Since you decided to bail, best of luck and don’t hold SKW accountable for your bad timing or the industries downward decline.
As far as low morale.............the overwhelming majority of SKW pilot have good morale. It not great but it is good, to say it's not just shows how JR you are and how little you get around.
BTW go back in reread, I didn't call you any names, I just spoke about your harsh reality. Don't put words in my mouth.
AGAIN!!!!! No offense.

really? with everyone downsizing and losing flying and furloughing you can guarantee that skywest will be one of the major players when (if) stuff starts to move again?

Absolutely. We're loaded up with pilots, cash, and 22 new planes coming in. Lots of ERJ's will be on the market that we're approved for and tooled up to train for.
I'm so confident, I'll bet you $1.

i don't think anyone wants the erj's anymore. you are right though, because no one wants them there will be a lot of them on the market. i thought the number of planes you guys were getting was reduced because of the midwest fiasco.

The only real change in the RJ order plans is that we cancelled our EMB retirements and are putting them to good use on new routes.
