I dont know how things work normally during a time in which things get slow. But I have a hard time thinking most airline pools will still be around when hiring starts up. I'd think most will have a chance to reinterview with the other pilots and thus might get offered a class again. After nearly 2 years from a point an interview started I just have a hard time thinking, any airline will keep their pools. Especially with the change in the market and thus they could require more time and experience by their groups they bring in for interviews. But who knows.

meyers, that is exactly what i was thinking. When the hiring does star up (prob '10) the pools will be the thing of the past.
But i did get an email from Trans State couple months ago saying that i was still hired and in the pool, even thought they have +100 guys on the street . Who knows?

still not many positive rumors circulating around the crew room these days... but there are a few little nuggets that might be cause for some hope:

1. Rumor of new airplanes (I've found that about 1 out of 3 rumors turn out to be true in some way)
2. USairways reporting profits on 7/23
3. Economy seemingly has stabilized/is slowly recovering

who knows... lord knows we need some good news at PDT

Mgmt squashed the new plane rumor in this weeks Q&A session:

.."until the economy and air travel demand improves, the challenge is to find productive routes to fly the equipment we have today."
Now its a "challenge" to find productive routes for the dhc-8? I can think of at least 10 such routes of stage lengths less than 200nm flown by RJs - double the gas double the fun? Whatever.

I'll add a couple new rumors to the list:
  1. Airways is moving from the current terminal in LGA to the Marine Air Terminal on the other side of the field so that Delta can be closer to the NW terminal due to the merger. If this happens, what is the food situation like over there? Anyone know? Hopefully its better than the McDonalds/pizza/chinese combo we have now.
  2. Airways is seriously considering using Bombardier's life extension program on the Dash which would include newer avionics, interiors and engines.
As far as new airplanes, I, too, have heard the rumor. Supposedly they found some airplanes at a good price. Tyrolean Airlines, over in Europe, is actually getting rid of all their 300s to replace with 400s...coincidence? Probably, but its interesting nonetheless.

Now I'm not saying I believe any of these rumors. I am as pessimistic as the next guy about the future of PDT. However, at least these rumors are different than the usual flowthrough/Q400 B.S. we all talk about every day and I thought I would pass them on.

Does anyone know when in August the reduction bid is suppose to be posted and will this bid indicate who is getting furloughed and when?

No idea...the company wont tell us anything. They were planning on furloughing 20 with 20 downgrades when they were going to give the first 4 planes back.

So from the ask PDT it appears the LGA rumors are true. I wonder what type of reduction we are looking at here.

I too wonder how many they will furlough, and when they will post the reduction bid. They say mid-August which I assume is about next week.

Maybe even the end of this week.. actually Friday makes sense.

The Bobs - "We find it's always better to fire people on a Friday. Studies have statistically shown that there's less chance of an incident if you do it at the end of the week."
