It's guys/gals with about a year of experience and it being there first 121 gig. It's a ton of work for a newbie. Plus the Dash 8 isn't a cake walk for a type rating. They just need more experience under the belt. The few I know and flown with will be fine with about another year of flying.

I would say 30-35% is a more realistic figure. Not that it is great, but is representative of low time in type and maintaining a standard of performance. Some folks just aren't ready or can't change their mindset from that of a FO. They will work with people, but definitely don't give out free passes to the left seat. It was the hardest thing I have ever done as an aviator.

The only people who don't think the 1000 hr types are ready to upgrade are the sorry sacks that spent a long majority of there life as sic. Those 3-4k sic types, but in reality Anyone can be a pilot. Were not that special. Anyone who believes they are better, has a case of the smartest guy with turrets syndrome.

I think it depends on the equipment flown. Had I been able to stay on a CRJ 1000 hours, perhaps I might agree. After a few hundred hrs I was bored on a jet. The Dash is a lot to be on top of, especially with the amount of new FOs we are seeing. To know the D is to love her, but you better be on top of your systems and procedures and be able to look past simply flying the airplane. She will kill you just as fast if you can't.
