Not sure what he meant.. something to do with mesa's ten planes?

This doesn't make anykind of sense, anybody can post whatever they want on facebook. It's good to start some rumors but you need to have more accurate stuff than that. FYI i wouldn't start getting excited about those dash in Denver, USair has a great history on failing to get equipments in the piedmont fleet. Just in the last three year: horizon had some 200 they where getting rid off and they went to commute-air, because USair put a lame bid on it. Recently some company from austria is also getting rid of some 300's, USair says because of the economic environment T-props leases are more expensive now, bottom line we won't get it. So just to let you know something that makes sense they should do they won't do it, do not start rumors from a logic point of view....now go and fly safe today...

I talked to our rampers here in MDT and he was indeed in town. Nobody really knows why. My guess is he had some meeting at SSO.

Any of you furloughed guys know if we are suppose to complete the Winter Ops packet? They never said we had to nor said we didn't have to. Just wondering what everyone else did. I mean, there is always the chance of a recall next month.....right?

hahahahaha... <gasp> if they try to recall me next month, I'm gonna tell them to kiss my rear end! Financially I'm better off on unemployment than I am on reserve at PDT. Plus, I can have friends and hobbies again! And I get to spend every night with my wife, which is nice... Anyways, all of my PDT stuff (including winter ops) either ended up in the dumpster or in the bonfire we had in MDT at our Halloween/Furlough party.

I am gonna miss this though.

The company would not expect you to do the test or hand it in after you've been furloughed. If/when you get recalled I'm sure it will be included in the training you'll get. Or at least that would be my expectation. The onus will be on the company to ensure you have the training and test done in a reasonable amount of time after you're recalled. Also, you're supposed to be paid to do that test, which is another reason you shouldn't do it while on furlough. Or just add it to the bon fire (I liked that Rocket).

With all the open time being picked up, a recall may be delayed.

A sample of one crew base shows the average pilot picked up over 2 hours in the December 48 hour period. Approximately 1/3 of the pilots picked up open time!!!

I haven't looked at the numbers you are seeing there, but often theres a lot of people who pick up open time in the 48 hour period in order to get other days off. Especially in December, when a person might pick up a two day trip in place of an out/back on christmas for example.

Even with that said, I completely agree with leaving open time 'open' when we have guys on the street. BUT, you gotta remember that mgmt failed to create a voluntary furlough (which we had in 2008), so the fact that our fellow young pilots with families who really need the money are spending this holiday season on unemployment is just as much on management's hands as anyone who is picking up open time.

I could care less if someone swaps days for days. The staffing level requires X pilots to fly the available flying. If someone wants to eek more pay or better days off, fine. But to cover that 2 day you picked up for an out and back would have resulted in less available RSV coverage overall. That can lead to them evaluating and possibly bringing back 2 or 5 or 10 for all we know. Swapping even numbers of day pairs doesn't matter for staffing. Picking up more does.

I will say this, those miserable ......s who pick up open time or take on an extra day of work to get a better day off do it because they just don't care about the collective well-being of the group.
I wanted to club (like you would a baby seal), the captain last month who told me that if he needed to he'd pick up open time to get the days off he needed to be home for days he had things to do right after we talked about my and the 70 other upcoming and current furloughs.

If you try to use financial hardship as an excuse to cover your deplorable behavior, well I call BS. If you are so desperate to pick up open flying because you can not cover your bills, in my opinion you are stupid. If 5-10 hrs of pay a month makes the difference whether you pay your rent or eat, you are living far beyond your means. The problem is that people have budgeted a level of income and when it drops, now they can't pay for all that they had before.

The sad fact is this... I'm unemployed, making nearly $1500/month less on unemployment than I did while employed. I'm still able to pay my bills, pay my debts, and save a little $ for my wedding. And FYI my bills/debts are not small by any means!

At least one Captain in LGA of whom I'm 100% sure picked up open this month and a 2nd I'm almost sure of did for whatever their reasons, either QOL or $ for bills tosses out responses of the sort: they put in their time, and while it sucks that other guys are getting screwed, they have to look out for themselves.

So be it, either they are so irresponsible as providers for their families that their children will go hungry or without a roof over their heads, or Daddy wants what he earned. (The latter rings true when you mainly keep this job for the medical and as a supplemental income because you have other assets bringing in a steady income as is the case with Captain America).
Back to the original point, if losing a few hundred dollars a month puts your family into hardship you are irresponsible for not planning, saving and living within your means. So either way the excuse doesn't hold up in my book.

Those people have earned my contempt. For whatever that's worth, and I'm sure not a lot, at least I got to say my peace. Just don't shake my hand and tell me "good luck" the next time you see me like both of you did...

By the way you active PDT LGA guys, at least one guy gave a rash of it to Captain America. Please remember there is at least one good apple who had enough guts to say it is wrong to this guy.

That was my rant for now, I'm probably going to get some sort of warning from the MODs for content, but for once, I outright don't care. I needed to say it, and there it was.
