AWAC $35 million loan to U.S. Airways
#13
Is the $35 Million some the money AWAC got when it sold its USAir stock and gave up its seat on the board? Don't recall how much money was made on the sale, but AWAC had invested $175 Million in US Air to get their business after they got concessions and still failed to get a long term deal from United.

No its from all the money they've saved by furloughing downgrading and eliminating overnights in LGA/RDU by splitting up trips and making pairings that wanna make us gouge our eyeballs out.

Oh and dont forget about the 15% drop in APU Usage....thats like a billion dollars right there

From what I understand it WAS NOT United's choice on which regionals to drop. The Judge picked the cheapest operators to stay and AWAC was not one of them.
PBS sucks but It seems like its on its way. Some of the union people I have flown with seem to be sutally (sp?) talking it up as "not a bad thing".
Makes me wonder if our "New Union" is already getting in bed with the company.

Yep. Seems like no airline mgt can stand for anyone to have a good contract. They want all the money. It is time one of these guys stepped up and cut his own pay to $1 a year until his comany is profitable enough to restore concessions. Didn't Lee Iacoca do that at Chrysler. If he didn't, he should have. That would be leadership.

I feel for AWAC and RAH pilots as both of your CEO's have invested your money in someone elses job upfront in order to save yours (Ok, his job) down the road. It may be out of total necessity but that's YOUR money and understand completely why you would be aggitated.

That wasn't the ONLY time UAL gave them the dis. They bought AWAC back in the 90's to get their slots in Chicago. When they decided to break them up, they basically forced some of the planes and the pilots onto ACA. The first couple pages of our (ACA) seniority list was a mishmash of odd seniority numbers with out of sequence hire dates. Some of the guys from WestAir/NPA, but many of them from AWAC as well. UAL gave pref interviews to many of the AWAC pilots, and there is whole bunch of drama that went with that. It ended up being a crappy deal for the AWAC pilots that went to ACA. They (AWAC) had some of the best pay for their equipment at the time. A -8 FO BACK then was making in the $30/hr range. Those guys got to become J31 FO's for somewhere around $13/hr.

When I was at PBS, I worked closely with the union regarding it. In a previous job with another airline, my wife had been a PBS administrator.
It *can* improve things, but only if there is a full re-write of Section 25 to include specific paring and line construction language to prevent pilots from getting royally boned. Additionally, I believe full control of such construction should go to the Scheduling Committee Chairman. At the very least, the SCC should have veto power over any proposed parings before they are published. At the very most, all parings should be built by the SC.
