Wow,
I just ran the numbers for Capt Sullenbergers pay. He came to USAIR in 1980 so he has about 29 years with the company.

His base pay is a little over $122,000

That is terrible for someone with that kind of time in at the company flying that type of equipment. FOs at Fedex make more than that and SOs make just a hair less with equal time on property.

Think of this now though. He can write a best seller book now about his ordeal and those of the past when he was in the Air Force, and make a killing. Just my 2c.

So what you're saying is that all I have to do to make a buck in this business then is succesfully ditch a large narrowbody aircraft into a river or other large body of water and survive to write the hardcover LoL

I put an aircraft down, unplanned, and a blind landing at that 19 years ago, on hard ground though. Darned if I did not write that book!

I hope I don't offend any Beech Captains outhere, I don't mean that in a bad way. I'm just saying experience like that should be taken into account and in Lieu of turbine PIC...But Southwest, UPS, FDX and other majors will never deviate from the 1000 PIC requirement ....

Feel free to disagree, just no flaming. Its just my opinion, nothing else
About your friend I can see where your comming from and that would bother me as well if I was in your situation...I guess

On the contrary don't harp on the 1900 or metro guys, in reality the 1900 Captain is probably a lot better pilot and decision maker than the MD11 FO because he HAS to make the decisions that count. 1900's fly low in the weather ALL the time and 90% of them don't have auto pilots so its all hand flying and long work days. Sure the MD11 is a lot bigger more complex airplane but comming from an HR standpoint (an airplane is just an airplane). At the end of the day the F.O. has only two jobs 1) make sure the captain doesn't kill them (safety) 2) Do as requested (complaince). I wish your friend all the luck in the world and hope he gets his break soon but no matter what equipement he is on he is still just an F.O. by no means should he be compared to ANY captain or PIC!

Man, that is some old school thinking. This is the attitude I see with some captains I fly with, always amazed by it.

Remember captains, it is the FO who will save your butt before you turn down that wrong taxiway.
