Too bad the ATR is -4 system wide for FO's after July 1... I wanted some PVDs. Speaking of ATRs... who thinks it's only a matter of time before the FAA shuts down the DFW operation?

LAX base will be shut down first before that! is SFO/SNA/SJC no longer a destination or just a rumor?

Perhaps they're about to write off the DFW ATR move a flop and return some of those A/C to the islands. Since neitherthe islands nor MIA need them all, that would make another overage of pilots............and maybe another furlough.

I wouldnt be surprised to see the DFW ATRs shut down. I can imagine mgmt is embarrassed with all the cancellations in their home base. Round 6 of displacements?

If they'd stop *****-footin' around with MX and get some mechanics that know the ATR they wouldn't have that problem. That crap wouldn't happen in MIA or SJU because MX speaks that special French/Spanish lingo that the ATR likes.

Mgmt ought to be embarrassed.

As I said about DFW and the ATRs a few months ago: "this would be a hell of a place to open an airline!"

The way I heard it, they are going down to 1 or even zero available, but are gettign by, because a large number of pilots are still working overtime.

It would seem to me, that if they are going down to 1 or 0 everyday, if you guys stopped working overtime, the recalls would happen much faster. Now, it they were ending the days with 20 and 30 kicking around that would be different, but the numbers are so close to tons of cancelled flights, that you guys are your own worst enemies.

Well, they had to close a base in New England because they couldn't afford to have two bases only 180 miles apart... so, now instead they have two bases 13 miles apart... This leaves little room for anybody to honestly think the Boston base closure had anything to do with saving money... therefore, since over the last 5 years they have taken the following actions:
Closed the most senior maint base

Offered early buyout to senior Capt's

Opened office of Professional development to help senior Capt's leave

Offered another early buyout to senior Capt's

Worked on A TA to help senior CA's flow to AA by giving them extra pay to cover the losses the first few years at mainline (TA failed)

Closed one of the most senior pilot bases in their system (BOS) because it was too expensive to run two bases 180 miles apart. LAX is the most senior, but nothing is near enough to shift the flying over to....

AMR has been closing AA stations, laying off all the personnel, then reopening it as an Eagle Station and offering the people the same job, but at regional rules and wages...

and now, they seem to be cutting back LAX flights... won't take too many more cuts, to be able to justify LAX as a fly through station as opposed to a base.... that way they can attack another group of the most senior pilots in the system.

It's all about getting rid of the most senior people in the regional industry.
They have people on RJ's with more flight time than pilots at majors like USAir and Delta.... with noplace to go to make the same, or more, money than they make now.

The mechanics in DFW have gotten much better. The problem is they are contract mx so a 30 minute job takes two hours. There are other problems that go with it but that is a start.

Did AMR announce more capacity cuts for the fall? I thought I read about an 8.5.% for the fall...I remember it being mixed in with a Delta cut back article...

Anyways...is that happening? or did I misread?

They made an announcement about it. Seems like it was pretty low key though, not much talk about it since then.
