Trust me, as a flight attendant for Republic Airlines, I am not to crazy about the idea of having Jetblue size jets but Air Wisconsin who has a 50 seater is still making $1.00 more per hour than our flight attendants do with twice as many people if this 190 deal actually flies.

Everybodys job is expendable...yours, mine, everyones. Not only in this industry, but in every industry. We can all sit back and toss out juicy words like, "disgusting, ludicrous, absurd, horrible, sickening" and so on. The bottom line is I would never expect someone to not go to work because I have been laid off. This has been happening at the airlines forever. It started on the ramp, and then the gates, and the mechanics, and now the pilots. This is what happens when everybody says, "oh sorry you got the axe mr mechanic, but I still got my job...sign here for me and we'll be underway" So I guess all that can be done, is for the folks who are senior to retire, the folks who are young enough to get out...get out. And those in the middle, settle on a decent regional, buy a ford focus, and a 2 bedroom in a small decent but not affluent neighborhood. Welcome to lower middle class, its a pleasure to have you.

THE WRITING ON THE WALL
Those in the best positions for future job security in this industry will be those flying for larger regionals with E-JETS, so it's best to position yourself there and climb the seniority list as fast as possible. By the time you make captain there, the dead end job at the bottom of a major (shriveling grapes in the sun) will look like way too risky for too little pay off.
Similar schedules, dwindling pay rates, no pension a long and risky road to captain all for sweating it out on the bottom of an industry (major carriers) that's hopelessly resigned to shrinking for the job you just left (regional E-JET).
If your smart, you'll head for the land of the E-JET and just say "no" to the crack cocaine fantasy of the future (the desirable major airline career). ALPA isn't going to save you.........heck it's a full time job just saving themselves (their dues income) NOW !
Signed,
The future.
