Yeah, ditto. 12 of 'em but who's counting. I've listened to all available audio, and read every written word I can find. What SIDA procedure didn't they follow? Did they all have escort authourity at that airport? What SIDA procedure at RST didn't they follow? And while we may be former rampers, the airport sets indivdual SIDA procedures, inclusive of TSA directives and the AOSSP. Having never set foot in RST, I'm not familliar with thier SOP's, are you? What were those specifics that were given that leads you to believe that they acted out of an ignorance or disregard of that airports SIDA procedures? If you're not comfortable discussing this on an open form, and that would be valid, feel free to PM me.

PM'd

Cliff-notes version:

What they told the crew is untrue at any airport, regardless of SOP.

Please forgive me for this, but you guys gotta stop worrying about the TSA.... They are useless! They have no powers of arrest, they have very limited power to detain. Any law enforcement decision will be made by the local authorities, who are brought to act by AIRPORT OPERATIONS.

The TSA moves in to an airport and tries to throw their weight around, but the fact of the matter is they are a federally mandated free tenant of the airport. They are uneducated, unskilled labor with less training than private security guards. On an average day, I pull SIDA badges on 2-3 TSA Screeners, usually for piggybacking to their smoking hovel. I look forward to my daily interaction with them as much as I look forward to my coffee, because I know it means that, when caught, they will be suspended and eventually fired (well, probably not fired, it is a welfare job).

Sorry, rant over..... Just remember, they may have the authority to attempt to stop you, but they can't do anything about but call people like me.

Is that what happened to the AT pilot? I could be wrong, but wasn't he yanked out of the cockpit and taken to the pokey by police?

In other words, did the local authorities listen to his side of the story before doing so?

In the interest of full disclosure, BlastOff made some good points in the PM he sent, and I appreciate our discussion. I don't think we're 100% in agreement, but he represented his position very well and professionally, and I have a great deal of respect for that.

Cheers!

She obviously didn't want to take resposibility for the Continental pax; most likely due to fear of getting in trouble with the TSA.

Or more likely the agent(s) didn't think it was their problem to stick around and help resolve.. Hell, we have major partners we fly for that won't handle diversions if it's after hours. You honenstly think another carrier is going to bend over backwards and help? Was the Mesaba station manager in RST ever notified or did he/she find out about this the next morning?
