I'm just saying I can't imagine a scenario where it would be prudent to have the FO marshall you in, unless he was qualified to drive a jetway. If there were stairs, set the parking brake and roll the stairs over to the jet.

No body is going to pat you on the back for doing something bizzare that didn't need to be done just because you wanted to flex your Captains authority.

I dont think being left seat qualified makes you the signing PIC for the flight. I might be wrong though. My crew barely consists of 3. Also I don't think you have to be left seat qualified to safely taxi a plane. I am sure MOST of my fo's could manage to get to the gate safely.

You don't need to be the PIC to taxi an airplane. Some aircraft even have tillers on both sides. Anybody can taxi an RJ and keep it off the grass, a heavy is a whole different story.

I fear this is very quickly becoming an Aviation nerd debate.

This is a no brainer. The captain messed up and she will not admit it. She will blame everyone else before herself. This turned into an emergency situation the second they ran out of food and water and the TOXIC toilet started running over. You call the fire department and have them help your passengers out of the plane. This is NOT good news for XJT. This just confirms the fact that the captain is scared of ruffling a few feathers.
What's up with XJT sending these poor passengers to MSP on the exact same airplane? If they were that concerned they would have sent a new plane up there that was in acceptable condition. I don't think XJT did the right thing. I think they underestimated the whole situation and didn't think it a big deal until the media got a hold of it.
It all comes down to captain's ultimate PIC authority. That is it. PERIOD. The end.

She hasn't blamed anyone, none of us or you have spoken to her. There were no medical emergencies. They didn't run out of food or water, and it was never confirmed that the Lav was flowing over. A lav in need of service (not overflowing) is not an emergency. All of the premises you just used to justify your opinion are false or yet to be verified/proven. The DOT just blamed somebody else...those who live in glass houses...

You keep standing up for her. She messed up. You won't admit it either. It's easy to blame Mesaba based soley on the tapes. Take a step back and REALIZE what really happened? She refuesed to take charge and she let her passengers sit in filth. She made a bad decision. We all make bad decisions. No one is perfect. But come on!

You weren't there. Come on. There is a federal investigation going on, they probably have a better idea than you or me.

I have been around aviation long enough to take the press' description of events with a grain of salt.

Kharma. Fly safe.

Yes, it was confirmed by passengers that there was no food, no water and the lav was over flowing.
I'm sure if you, your spouse and children were on that flight you'd have a different attitude. Still can't figure out why you're standing up for this obviously poor decision making....
