"Thank you for all you do!"

I'd vote yes again.

I hate to stir the pot but the one of the other large reasons the union drive failed were the idiots who they had trying to organize us. Career regional guys with an axe to grind or MECs from other companies who pretend to know our company culture....that is not who most young, junior guys are looking to for career advice. I interned at a major and worked in a department that saw a great deal of company-union interfacing, I saw the benefits and drawbacks of a union and I didn't once hear any of the longer term, true union benefits mentioned by the SkyWest guys. If guys from airlines with good union-company relations like Continental, South West or Fedex came in and told our pilots that a union can have a great relationship with the company as long as you keep good guys on the board, then perhaps ALPA would have stood a chance. Another problem in my mind is that the same guys who are organizing will be running for the ALPA positions and I'd personally much rather SAPA negotiate my next "agreement" then them. If Mike Macias, Jeremy Petersen, et al kept their positions with whatever organization would succeed SAPA, I'd vote for that, but the chance of getting some dingbats that tick off the company scares a significant amount of people. Future union drives will need guys with more tact, intelligence and perspective rather than frustrated, opinionated and largely emotionally driven organizers.

All just one man's opinion on a complex matter

To those of you SKYW folks that vote in ALPA, look forward to 2% of your pay going out the window, but hey, you get a sweet magazine every month.... No sarcasm, at all....

CAL management does NOT have good relations with the pilot group & ALPA...just look around for "The Magenta Line" to get an idea just how bad things there are.

I'd have happily given 2% to have kept my health care choices. and to have some decent reserve rules that can't be ignored whenever screw support feels like it.

Yes to ALPA, or any organization that keeps "the employer of choice" accountable.

I've lost more than 2% of my yearly compensation with the backwards slide we are taking. Wait till the healthcare crap kicks in. I'd gladly pay my 2% to have a fair chance at negotiating with management.

I don't know if I'd say that management/labor relations are "hostile/advesarial" at FedEx. Just talking to my buddies there, I don't think I'd rate them as "great" either.

Haha, I suppose great may be an exaggeration, I was merely comparing them to UAL or American

I feel that in other professions, often managers of business units and individual project managers often work under contract. Often the second in command also work under contract. I think that airline crews are in a very similar position. The captain is the leader of a small "business unit" and the FO is #2. If people in the business world have a similar position and work under contract, I feel we should as well.
