I don't want to risk not making it back so I probably won't go, but I am curious what the opinion would be of all you jumpseat pros. I have never jumpseated before so I don't know what the odds are that I would not make it on at least one of those 6 flights coming back (they are all AA).
Where are you trying to commute to? (Some airports have allot of commuters and can make it a pain) Does anyone else go there directly from DFW? You could try other airlines if you are already in CASS) Have you checked the non rev list to see if anyone else can jumpseat? (be careful with this as some people don't list and just show up, or might decide to take the earlier flight. J/S are assigned AA then AE based on seniority until 15 minutes prior to departure after that is first come first serve on AA/AE) What equipment is it? (Some aircraft have 2 J/S). Also have you though bout if unable to come direct then doing 2 legs.

I avoid jumpseating or non reving on American because we have to pay. I do use AE now because it's a one leg commute, but when I had a two leg commute I was always using other carriers. If the flights are AE, AE pilots trump AA pilots for the jumpseat and visversa. Going home for a weekend can be nice, but the stress of making it back kinda sucks. I believe I did it during the week of cbt training that we had in DFW. It's like an extra week to finish the computer stuff but no one really showed up for it so I went home on Wednesday and came back late Saturday.

There is an alpa app for jumpseating on other carriers. Most of the time it's as easy as going up to the gate and asking if you could js on that flight. Just have your airline ID ready and your passport and you're good to go.

Thanks for the reply. I'll be flying out of SAN, and it looks like it's only AA doing SAN-DFW on MD-80s. I have looked at the flights on the non rev planner but I'm not sure how to check if anybody else is able to jumpseat. Haven't looked too deeply at other 2 leg options but that may be a better choice, thanks for the tip.

If any one is able to use the cockpit jumpseat it will say FDJ AA or FDJ EAG for American or Eagle respectively. If you are looking at past flights to see if someone say in the jumpseat, look for someone who was seated in "1W" because thats the seat code for the jumpseat.

I think if someone from another carrier lists for the jumpseat, they show up as a D6UJ? Something like that.

Don't forget to carry your medical and certificate, have it ready for the captain to see if he so wishes and always ask for permission and thank them for the ride (even if you have a seat in the back). And once you hit the line, remember to return the favor. I jumpseat all the time (I don't commute) and it's the best benefit of this job! So don't abuse it, did I mention thank the crew (include the FA), they can make the experience an enjoyable one if they know you are crew and you are nice. Free TV, meals, exit row and first class to name a few.

One of the first times I commuted on an AA flight, going home after a trip. Of course flight is completely full and overhead storage space is non existent. Introduce myself to the flight crew, small talk a bit then the FO volunteers to show me down to the place where the crew keeps their bags on the MD80. Then, says when we land in ORD, he'll go down and get it for me and just leave it on the jet bridge. All without me even asking. Excellent pair of human beings right there.

Default Military Rotary Wing time towards total time

Just looking for a little advice. I have been told that my military rotary wing time will count towards total time for Eagle. My question is wether or not rotary wing time is accepted 1 for 1 with fixed wing time in regards to total time? The issue I am concerned with is having plenty of RW time, but not enough Fixed wing total time (only 220 hrs vice required 800 per website) to qualify. Any advice would be appreciated.

This. Always, always, always say thank you. Commuting is a privilege, jumpseating is a privilege.

I've been treated awesome on AA; first class, food, wonderful crews. I work for a Continental Connection carrier and Continental is my last choice for commuting.

I was wondering if there was a list anywhere of the desitnations that American Eagle flies to out of the different hubs. I am thinking of trying to get DFW when I start training and am wondering where I could be flying to. The Eagle website has a destination map but no routes so I dont know which airport belongs to which hub! Thanks for the info
