You should hear Friday if your stuff goes. They will call you and then send you more paperwork and schedule your medical. You will have to travel to a hub for the medical.

You get training pay AND 16 hour a day per diem until you complete IOE. Took me just over 5 months from day 1 to completion of IOE. After IOE you are then officially in base. And I thought the 3 move days were paid for a new hire and it's only one paid/two unpaid move days for a base transfer.

How far are you from an upgrade? I'm 6 months out.

Is one allowed to continue work as a CFI during this long wait? I've heard conflicting stories ranging from 'the airline will make you quit working as a CFI once you get the initial job offer' to 'it doesn't matter, you can still CFI on the side' ... So, is there anybody here with the correct, official information on that matter? I would prefer to continue work as a CFI if I will have to wait that long, regardless of the paycheck.

Thanks for the help.

Technically, you cant work as a CFI. Think 30 in 7 issues.

PSpence 11-28-2011 08:33 PM

True. But, if you're sitting around the house waiting to start IOE, how would one go over 30 hours in a week? Also, would it matter that the 30 in 7 applies to Part 121 and the CFI-ing is done via other Parts?

I guess what I'm looking for is: does American Eagle ever specifically say "You must now resign from any other flying jobs you have." ...?

Thanks for any clarification.

Why would you want to? After 3 1/2 years of teaching steep turns amd stalls in a Cessna I couldn't get far enough away from the CFI world when I was hired. Plus, as has been mentioned you get training pay and 16 hours per diem every day of the week up until the day you finish IOE.

Your spare time would be much better served learning your aircraft. It's not just about rote memorization of systems to pass the oral. You should really understand the plane you are flying, and make sure you know your flows and profiles.

Put GA behind you. Welcome to the airlines.

If I recall correctly, there is no commercial flying allowed without specific approval from the company.

"Listen to the teleconference from mid-Novemeber. If the longevity pay "adjustment" were in effect today, we'd see a 20% PAY CUT. What else does anyone need to know? Can't believe anyone is willing to agree to this garbage."

FM 1 states some where that if you want to do outside flying you would have to tell your domicile chief pilot.

But no Eagle wont say you MUST RESIGN from your previous flying job, they just expect a 100% commitment to the new job.
