The new United is going to keep the 66 seaters.. everyone get used to it. Pilots have this dream that those wide body guys wont sell us all down the river for a few more $, but the leadership (union and mgmt) have all got their hands in the pie and are just working out the details. Express <67 seats is here to stay in IAH, EWR, and anywhere else mgmt wants, so quit whining.

In a few short years those 1400 UA will be back (if they want to) and this argument over 66 seats will be a distant memory.

Is that wishful thinking? I agree that the 700's will stay for the forseable future but I don't think they'll be around long term as uax. I guess only time will tell.
Regarding widebody guys, I have spoken with a few and they all are quite aware of the repercussions of relaxed scope. They all seemed to have woken up to the erosion of the career. You can't blame the ua/co guys wanting to fight back to try and get something that they were forced to give up. I guess all we can do is have a civil conversation regarding the topic.

As the economic metric of the 50 now is undesirable so will the 70 seater as oil becomes expensive enough to point where it will make it so. If oil becomes high enough look out for the Q as a replacement for the shorter feed routes. Very economical aircraft, especially if the carrier opts for pax O2
to operate in the 30's flight levels. I see these and the 90-120 seater as the future. UAL/CAL ALPA, make sure you account for those Q's in your contract!

Scope clause restricting ALL 76 seaters, including turboprops--otherwise they'll just shift everything to Colgan, which would probably be the worst thing anyone can possibly imagine.

At least Skywest pays their people a living wage.

But it is a reality. CO guys know it too. They already agreed to keep UA's RJ deal when they join lists. It's the short term that's in question. Mgmnt will just keep the planes on the UAX side till the single list. Done.. end of story. So the big to-do about SkyW in IAH and Repub in Newark was over nothing.. puffed up chests to show some phony bravado.

While we want out of the RJ rat race, Legacy mgmnt and Regional mangement are trying to figure a way to get 99 seat planes on Express. I agree the (firm) line has to be drawn. I just think this deal about 66 seats is silly because its not going away and UA guys dont really want to fly them anyway.

They do pay a living wage. For FO's it is comparable to an appliance delivery person. For most CA's it is comparable to a lower-end white collar professional.

But it is not commensurate with the costs of entry, risk, and hardship inherent to the career.

Having been at both Colgan and SkyWest, the difference is night and day.

Perhaps you should survey some of the 1437. I for one would be happy to fly any size jet or turbo prop for reasonably professional wages at United.
It's nice that you're out there to speak for all of us.
