Skywest opens IAH base
#211
Just talked to my friend from Chautauqua yesterday and he mentioned that Mr. Bedford has been asked to open a EWR base for the 170's by Smisek. However, Bedford is waiting to see what our legal hearing at CAL says about the scope for rj's over 70 seats. I hope that the judge rules in favor of CAL and slams the door on the 70 seaters at CAL!
Where does it end? Next thing you know the regionals will start to try and fly 100 seat jets over at mainline!
Also, thanks to all of the Express Jet folks in EWR who have come up and asked questions as to what is going on. Most of you are in the know and don't want the bigger jets at Express because you know that you want to have a future job waiting for you at a mainline carrier.

You attitude is what makes it REALLY hard for me and others to try to sell alpa to some of our co-workers. SKW pilots tend to be pretty independent as a group (cowboy/mountain culture I guess) and the first hint of union thuggery produces a pretty violent backlash.
BTW, the coat-tails theory is only vaguely applicable. The main reason that we have never had a union is the company culture...they used to take care of people, in more ways than just compensation (and the compensation used to pretty good by industry standards). Of course that's all changing now.

Look if your gonna bash regionals at least get your facts staight. The RJ's we're talking about have 66 seats. That's not equivalent to a 737, that's around half the capacity. As for work rules you're completely wrong also. Block or better, min day, premium pay, voluntary Jr man, holiday pay whether you work or not, 100% deadhead.
And before you label me an eager beaver IAH SkyWest stereotype know that I was on the ALPA OC last time around, think this whole deal sucks and will never fly a 700 out of IAH on the CAL code.

Thus we have a ton of new hires and happy upgrades at Skywest while a ton of furloughs at UAL occuir. Jerry better be smiling ear to ear right now, because his company has peaked and will shrink in this decade. The simple fact remains the big lawn dart doesn't not provide a fraction of the career earnings of what it replaced.

SkyWest will again try to sell the koolaid and goodwill to try to beat a union drive, but I think that's all past us now. There are those who will drink it up but I feel most people have seen right through it.

Dear god, you guys really love to point out 'it's really only 66 seats'. Sweet, wanna point out how cool the Economy Plus is as well! The airplane was bought almost entirely to make a generation of mainline metal redundant. Upgauging from 50 seaters has rarely occurred in comparison.

Totally not my point. My point is a CRJ is half the size the of 737. They're not the same aircraft and don't garner the same pay. Last I checked pilots rates weren't based on the routes we fly. But listening to people as ridiculous as you reminds me why I stayed away from here for so long. Enjoy cyberspace buddy.
