Eastern , Western (Delta), Air Cal (American), Reno Air (American), New York Air (Continental), Texas International (Continental), Allegheny (US Air), Pacific Southwest (US Air)...gone. Delta + Northwest went with the less regional-associated name.

Well for starters, both Airlines had bases at LAX for Delta, XJT a base at ONT as well, and both had hub operations at SLC. We'd like to think we'll fly out there again someday and not pigeon-holed to the Southeast, management has even hinted they feel the same way.

That said, a region-specific name would still be light years ahead of some touchy-feely name like SureJet.

Delta means the Mississippi delta in Louisiana. Doesn't get more regionally focused than that.

Actually it does...Northwest. The average pax in no way associates Delta with the origin of its name.

All this fuss over a name you'll hardly use and most pilots (let alone pax) won't recognize? I'd worry more about the callsign I'll say 30 times a day- how about AceyJet
