Because if you're free to walk away after being furloughed, that makes the training contract a lot better.

Better than still being held to a training contract - - yes I would think so.

I've heard rumor that if furloughed, you owe nothing while on leave. However if called back, you must return where you'd continue to earn back your training. If you decide not to return, it would be considered a "termination" in which you pay what you owe as per the training agreement. Like I said, just a rumor. Any truth to this? The only thing that worries me going into training is the possibility of furlough due to forecasted lack of EAS funding. I cant imagine them making you pay for training if they literally run out of routes for you to fly. CP told me he can almost guarantee that if routes were cut, it would only be 1, 2 at most from each northern base Silver operates. So there'd still be plenty of flying, otherwise they would bid new routes or bring everyone back down the Florida. Then again, he may have been trying to sell me on it.

It depends on the termination I would guess. If you choose to not come back that's not termination it's resigning; I'm also speculating that it's off of the date we signed so if you get called back after the 2 years it's over.

Does GIA have fee-per-departure agreements, and/or do they sell their own tickets with codeshare agreements?

The contract you sign is what's known as a liquidated damages clause and contrary to what anyone tells you it is enforceable. In the event you were furloughed it's a bit of a grey area as to weather the contract is still valid. From the attorney I spoke with (my brother in-law who reviewed the Silver contract, I'm in the Jan.16 class) he felt that it would not; the courts have historically taken a negative view towards anything that would inhibited an individuals ability to earn and income. Now this is not to say they will not try to come after you, they can and very well may. However, from my experience so far with Silver (which I grant is limited) this is a NEW and significantly better company than the old GIA and is headed in the right direction. The other thing you need to remember about Silver is that unlike the old GIA and Lakes they are now owned by a private equity group with a dump truck load of cash behind them.....as soon as VPAA purchased the old GIA the first thing they did after cleaning house in management was purchase the entire 1900 fleet from Raytheon in CASH and the new Saabs were getting, there paying cash for them as well. This is not some operation who is one ballon payment away from closing the doors.....

Cruz- How has training been so far? Is there anything we should plan to bring which was not included in the original new hire email? Also do you guys have to wear the uniform every day? Thanks again for all of your posts.

I took the drug test last week and have not heard anything yet, hopefully it will all be finalized within the next couple of days. I'm assuming that the backgrounds checks have also been finished, as I've never heard of a company thats going to pay $$ for a drug test on someone who hasn't first passed a back ground/driving record check.
