If I wanted to be in the percent that makes under 40k, I wouldn't have invested the time and effort I did. I'm not trying to attack you, but I think it's silly, bordering on insulting when a professional pilot, thinks he/she has it made on 40k/yr. I don't know about you, but I consider myself worth a lot more than that, and I'm going to work hard to convince my employer of that as well.

Sorry if I came across as launching a personal attack, but I don't think 40k is anything to feel good about as a professional pilot.

In truth, if wingtips can pay all the bills on 40k there's nothing wrong with it. My problem lies with the mindset that "I'm a regional FO; I'm supposed to be starving, so 40k is a really big deal". That attitude is is part of the reason we're paid so poorly, and it has to stop.

It's not about an attitude but a perception. Supply and demand dicatate what an airline pilot makes. Emotion and envy drive web boards. Supply and demand drive what anyone makes.

We need to stop thinking about what makes us who we are is the airplane/airline that define's us. Our family/life outside of work should be what sets the bar. Start defining life as what you did with your kids as opposed to what you defined with the company.

1500 hrs is way to low to become a 121 pilot, it should be more like 2500 and an atp

You are 1000% right. I have flown with enough 300 hr pilots to know this law cannot come into effect fast enough. Everyone should have their ATP to fly for the airlines period. Being a CA can be stressful enough without having to fly single pilot IFR on some days because the fo just does not have enough hrs to stay in the game.
Sure some of the flight schools like UND and Riddle will lose some $ (they are over priced anyway), but on the positive side, maybe flight schools will finally pay instructors what their worth. (or just go out of business)

I completely agree with you... Why should a 4year FO on the E190 at republic make 37$ and a 4year at Jetblue make 79$? I guess its 2 totally different jobs...
Airline mangmnt has done their jobs very very well... getting a 26 year old to think that after 4 or 5 years of flying making 40K is awesome.
Makes me sick.
And now at my airline mangmnt is crying that the pilots are over paid... 5 or 6 year FOs are making 41$... over paid!!!!! This industry in US is total crap and will never get better just because people would do this job for free.
Air Canada Jazz CRJ2 FO on 5th year pay 58$... why dont they make slave wages?
Pilots in the US are expolited because we let it happen. Then we spread our disease oversea's... look at ASA's Air Mekong or whatever that place is called... going to Vietnam for US regional wages, its no wonder we are looked on like crap.

Honest question, do you mean we are looked down on by other nations or other nation's pilots or both?

how about you do like we did back in the late 80's and get 3000TT before a $15/hr commuter hires you? that's what's wrong with aviation today, it's kids who think they're entitled to a job with 400 hours in their logbook... This is why we've got jobs that pay nothing today... nobody wants to pay their dues. And what used to be a dues paying job is now called a "regional" airline and even "major" airline..
