Why do so many think Delta wants a flow up? They couldn't dump the Compass and Mesaba flows fast enough... The only reason Compass was grandfathered was good language put in when Compass was created and much groveling to get a few Mesaba guys grandfathered. Delta wants to hand pick everyone, not be told who has to be next based on a regional seniority number.

Shuttle landings are hard to come by... I'm not being sarcastic as a "stereotypical" airline pilot in the US. My DL contacts told me it's select to the top pedigree at this point. Either check multiple HR boxes or be "the man" on a resume. It's a nod to the delta guys, but a hard knock to those who tried to build a good résumé with regional experience. No offense intended, it's the realistic current atmosphere.

Whens the next vacancy bid coming out? I would have thought it would be out by now for the month long process it usually takes. If there isn't a set date, what does that mean?

It's a slap to our faces that they even call them vacancy bids still...

Its not the salad days of the late 90's, but its not as bad as you suggest either. And there are many ways for even a plane jane RJ pilot to stand out, if they do just a little legwork looking into it and spend a small additional effort beyond just flying the line and logging the hours.

I thought only SWA wanted Shuttle time, Delta just wanted F14 instructor time with 500 traps.

Can you expand on this? I don't see mainline having to worry about a shortage at the mainline level. Regionals on the other hand...

The beginning of Ab Initio programs, perhaps?

I didn't have any of that, but my daddy was a chief pilot, director of flight ops, and invented the modern jet engine.
