My company is notorious for hiring pilot's offspring.

You know since my post on the previous page, there have been some solid, well stated facts & opinions concerning this issue. A far cry...and I do mean a FAR CRY from some of the comments that were posted in that thread a few years back that I eluded to.

Still got tears in my eyes from laughing so hard @ Otto's post: "Not even close". Man I never laughed so hard. No disrespect meant Jaded.

The only "fair" way to hire at the airlines, with respect to equal rights, is to tally the percentages of specific groups who have a commercial or soon to be atp. Take those percentages and require all airlines to have atleast that percentage of pilots from that specific group. If this were done, not one major would ne required to hire another female or minority for quite some time.

How about only hiring qualified people, no matter race or sex. That's where the issue is.

I like that idea.

What some people here seem to be suggesting is that qualified people are being bypassed in order to hire somebody who has not met the minimums. I don't believe this is the case at all.

If you're so sure it's so prevalent as to create a problem for white males, please enlighten us with evidence. Can you point to specific names on the seniority list where this happened?

For all the discussions I've had about this, nobody has ever been able to man up and say "XX hired in Jan of ____ didn't meet the mins when hired."

If somebody can show me some solid examples, I'll be the first to join the protest, but as of now, nothing

Why is it that many major airlines at this time have minimum requirements for pilot candidates lower than most regionals?

Having just gone through a regional "hiring spree", I have seen no evidence of affirmative action hiring discussed here.
We are talking about the majors and not the commuters.
Alot of regionals would hire almost anybody during the hiring spree.
Can you fog a mirror? Then your hired.

UAL had that exact problem and that is why they lowered the mins to 350 TT.

I know 2 females at USAir that did not have their apps in prior to the window closing and were filling them out during the interview. The window closed 3 month previous to interviews. One of them did not make it past the probationary check ride. Neither one of them had any TPIC.

I know several at AA that were hired within a couple months of getting an ATP. Meanwhile guys at the same regional, with three times the qualification, had their apps in for a couple of years and still nothing.

I know two minority males that were hired at UAL with less than 1200 TT and zero TPIC.
One was a complete douche and the other was a nice guy. Of course the douche thinks he deserved the job.

I know one minority male that was hired at NWA with 1100 and zero TPIC.
At least he knew why he was being hired.

The list goes on and on, plenty of evidence and these are ones that I know personally. I am sure many others out there have similar stories.

The main grip that most guys have, there are one set of standards for white males and significantly lower standards for other groups. I have plenty examples of that and names to go with it as I know quite a few of them.

Like I said in a previous post. Hopefully the silliness will stop with next round of hiring coming in the near future.

1) Do you know all of these individuals personally or have you just heard about these situations? If you have so much in depth knowledge of these situations, I am assuming that you have some link to the hiring at UAL, USAir, and AA?

2) Do you know of any situations where white males got some type of deal or break? Or is it you opinion that that never happens?

3) Do you walk around thinking that every minority or female pilot got some type of break to get their job, and every white male pilot was fully qualified, passed all their jeopardy points and had no issues making it to the seat?

Frankly, the honest answer to these questions may help you to understand your frustration. Believe me, HRs will weed out people they see as a potential liability in the future.

Hey TheDude if that be the case then I should've been hired at UAL coz I had the QUALITY time but I was'nt. I say again friends as a former interviewer. You're time ONLY gets you to the interview you must sell yourself to us for the job,and we must feel the chemistry from our perspective,no matter if you a have 1200 hours or 12,000,or in some cases viewed as a douche bag...
