Obviously you are of a different opinion and believe it is alright and justified to be a burden to your fellow pilots because you lack the spine to call out when you are not fit to fly.

That has nothing to with with calling out sick because you didn't get your siesta today.

I have no problems helping commuters get to/from work at all. Commuting should absolutely be allowed. My problem is with guys that complain about how hard it is. My biggest problem, however, is with FOs that show up on my airplane after sitting 5-6 hrs in the middle row of a 757 on a redeye and complaining about being tired. There are quite a few at my company that do this. They miss radio calls, set the FMS wrong, get altitudes wrong etc. Not everytime but enough that I have noticed. I have also noticed the same problems with guys that start their commute around 4-5am for a showtime of 2pm followed by about 10 hrs of duty.

Ultralight I hope you don't work for the airlines but at most airlines you don't talk to the chief pilot every time you call in sick. While this thread is about commuting we are discussing an aspect of commuting that has to do with personal responsibility. I always try to get people on my aircraft but that has nothing to do with commuters who want everyone around them to share their burden.

I can gaurantee you that if you called out sick because you didn't get your afternoon nap as you are suggesting, you would most certainly be getting a phone call.
Try it and let me know how it goes.

Did you know that the leading cause of divorce is marriage? Google it, it's true.
Hmmm, really? So what happens when an airline furloughs/displaced/and closes bases all at once? Line holding pilot is just lucky to have a job, but now may be faced with 1)Moving, possibly away from family and somewhere the wife can't get a job, higher COL, possibly lose money on the house sale, etc. Or 2) commuting and possibly to reserve? Yet STILL lucky to have a job?
What do you suggest the pilots in the situation johnson29 explained do?
No offense, but you're SA on this whole thing is pretty substandard. I'm of the inclination that you have yet to see many of these scenarios play out first hand. You'll have a hard time convincing me otherwise.
At least wait til you hold a line.
