They may pay higher wages, they do have to deal with higher European maintance and fuel cost and all that goes with the European aviation scene.
SOOO.....If they can make it work and with higher pay and costs why cant the existing regionals do it now.............. ??????

All you folks touting their arrival might want to do a little homework. Most guys I know that are flying for foreign carriers are dying to get back to the states. These carriers have few if any work rules, often don't honor seniority, and pay much less than their US counterparts. I worked for a regional and understand the angst with the downward spiral going on, but allowing foreign carriers to operate domestically will be a disaster for the US airline industry, and the overall pay and quality of life for pilots based here.
There are work rules, different ones, but work rules nonetheless. On some you would benefit from, some others you wouldn't.
From what I gather, they follow seniority, but not blindly, they honor abilities first. Some don't let substandard applicants upgrade just because their number is up. Seniority will get you an interview to upgrade to CA, if you show competence you advance to CA training, if not, go back to the line.
On the pay...not even close. An FO would have to wait 5+ years at Delta to make what he/she would make in EK/FD and even EY on year 1. And this is without even getting into the tax free scenario you'd be in UAE. Upgrade is much shorter on some of those carriers too compared to most majors here, throw that in there too to account for added income as a CA.
Expat flying in UAE is not all good or all bad. You can choose to be in favor or not of foreign carriers, but you can't ignore facts just to support your cause against them.

Look at this from the the perspective of the long run, and not here and now. That's how we got into this regional mess to begin with.
As a fellow regional pilot, I agree with you. Our current situation sucks. However, allowing these companies to come in and unfairly compete will only erode mainline opportunities in the future. They may offer something better than what we have NOW, but think about when you do make it to that major carrier. If these guys are allowed to come in and compete unfairly, then your chances will likely be much slimmer of getting that shot at a mainline job. If ever.
If this thing passes, the ramifications could be far worse than allowing large RJ's at the regionals. Think smart, think long term.

I made more last year as a rather junior DL 320 FO than my friend who is a 380 captain at emirates.

My chances of getting a livable career at a foreign carrier is much greater than getting a job at a mainline even today. I'd much rather take a job that is a relatively sure thing today than fight and claw for a small chance to get a better job but risk getting stuck where I'm at.
Needless to say, between that and other statements on here, you've proven to all that you have exceedingly poor judgement and foward thinking.

Compass was a much better situation than where I'm at currently, I can't deny that. I wish I could have gone but financially I couldn't make it work. The fact still remains, mainline jobs are incredibly hard to come by and at least those foreign jobs are better than where I'm at now.
