Woooooha dude. Unfairly compete..... let me see now.

They may pay higher wages, they do have to deal with higher European maintance and fuel cost and all that goes with the European aviation scene.

SOOO.....If they can make it work and with higher pay and costs why cant the existing regionals do it now.............. ??????

Just saying.

This is not accurate.

There are work rules, different ones, but work rules nonetheless. On some you would benefit from, some others you wouldn't.

From what I gather, they follow seniority, but not blindly, they honor abilities first. Some don't let substandard applicants upgrade just because their number is up. Seniority will get you an interview to upgrade to CA, if you show competence you advance to CA training, if not, go back to the line.

On the pay...not even close. An FO would have to wait 5+ years at Delta to make what he/she would make in EK/FD and even EY on year 1. And this is without even getting into the tax free scenario you'd be in UAE. Upgrade is much shorter on some of those carriers too compared to most majors here, throw that in there too to account for added income as a CA.

Expat flying in UAE is not all good or all bad. You can choose to be in favor or not of foreign carriers, but you can't ignore facts just to support your cause against them.

I wish it was like that here sometimes, too.

I made more last year as a rather junior DL 320 FO than my friend who is a 380 captain at emirates.

Granted he has housing paid for and most of his income is tax free, but I was shocked to learn how little he actually brings in.

You guys stuck on the "well they pay more than the regionals" thing are looking an inch ahead instead of looking miles ahead as you should be.

As a fellow regional pilot, I agree with you. Our current situation sucks. However, allowing these companies to come in and unfairly compete will only erode mainline opportunities in the future. They may offer something better than what we have NOW, but think about when you do make it to that major carrier. If these guys are allowed to come in and compete unfairly, then your chances will likely be much slimmer of getting that shot at a mainline job. If ever.

If this thing passes, the ramifications could be far worse than allowing large RJ's at the regionals. Think smart, think long term.
My chances of getting a livable career at a foreign carrier is much greater than getting a job at a mainline even today. I'd much rather take a job that is a relatively sure thing today than fight and claw for a small chance to get a better job but risk getting stuck where I'm at.

You may have made more but then you paid taxes, your mortgage, and all other utilities (ek pays your utilities). So who really came out on top? As far as regionals go: many of us have been stuck here for years with that major job carrot just out of reach. Now, during times of record profits, we are getting kicked in the teeth with concessions and threats of shut down. Let the foreigners in I say. Passengers deserve better than the 70 year old granny complaining about her long day to everyone.

Yet you turned down a job at a carrier that would have given you a guaranteed interview at DL in about 3 years.

Needless to say, between that and other statements on here, you've proven to all that you have exceedingly poor judgement and foward thinking.

Compass was a much better situation than where I'm at currently, I can't deny that. I wish I could have gone but financially I couldn't make it work. The fact still remains, mainline jobs are incredibly hard to come by and at least those foreign jobs are better than where I'm at now.

UA, AA, DL would be smart to sign up every RJ pilot they can. Just saying,
my phones not ringing and I'm not planning on retiring in a RJ..
