American to Shrink Regional Carrier
#51
Just appears from the sidelines with the vote and much that has been written that the envoy pilots have taken direct shots at AA management. I understand you guys did what you thought you needed to do and the result won't be known immediately if it was good for your career or not.
If AA were to start massive culling of 50 seaters with the addition of 175's couldn't they potentially eliminate much of envoy fairly quickly? What happens to the flow if envoy were to be shut down from the flying standpoint? What would happen to those that don't make the leap beforehand? Do the envoy pilots all have AA seniority numbers now?
I don't know the answers, just asking the questions.

The options I believe are fairly limited for AA. 1) They can cut the flying and new planes for the Eagle guys, but don't really have any place to send it / them. 2) They can pay mainline pilots to do the flying at a reduced frequency of service..... OR 3) They can pay pilots what they are worth and treat them like the professionals they are.
I am sure my view is myopic, but I'm an FNG.

95% of our pilots have furlough protection.
Our current Captains, have Captain pay protection incase of displacements.
The only way to shrink has to be from the top. Accelerate the flow through, is the only way to shrink AE quickly.

If they just needed an excuse to mothball Envoy, they could have just done it after the MEC refused to send it down. Your theory doesn't explain why they would take a second try at it.

I believe they were going to shrink Envoy regardless of the vote. This just gives management an opportunity to try to intimidate us. It won't work on me. They've created an A scale and a Z scale in this country with the Z scale doing half the domestic flying at less than half the pay and benefits. It's time for pay and benefits to go the other way, management. We're speaking, are you hearing us?

I don't think many of us with the exception of the most senior CAs are counting on that flow. Most FOs I know, myself included are a applying to any major airline accepting applications. The AA flow is a nice card to play if all else fails but it's certainly not my career plan. I think I'll be able to get hired somewhere before Eagle shuts the doors, assuming they do.
