Isn't flow through a big consideration? What's the point of having an amazing contract if you're going to be stuck as an FO for 8 years versus 2 years (thence getting a significant pay increase.)

Between Envoy and PSA, they both have bottom of the barrell contracts then?

Isn't the whole point to get in, get out and get on with a major asap? If XJT most junior got upgraded in 2007, why would anyone wanna stick around for almost 10 years with an FO payscale no matter how good the contract is?

Yes but what are the upgrade times? You might be at a much better place at Horizon but if the upgrade is 7 years what good is that?

I'm not sure what AWAC upgrade time is. Horizon is a career regional much like what Piedmont used to be. That might not be a good choice if getting to a major is your final destination.

It might be because we are talking about REGIONAL contracts, and as far as I know, SWA isn't a REGIONAL airline.

EV, OO and MQ all qualify as major airlines base on the DOT definition. What's your point?

If the paint scheme on the side of the equipment you're operating does not match the name of the company writing the checks, you're probably at what is considered a regional airline...

Horizon's upgrade time is about to plummet... It is approaching the point at which there was a span of no hiring for about 3 years... We will see 5 year and possibly 4 year upgrades in the next year assuming the current training plan doesn't change.

Awesome! Is that due to retirements or adding airplanes? Or are people actually leaving. I know it's one of the best regionals and the Northwest flying has got to be a blast.

XJT's is a ten year old concessionary contract as well.

Everything is a consideration. You need to do the math on the flow throughs. PDT is 3-4 a month and envoy is between 15-30 a month.

Keep in mind that more and more regional FOs are being hired at mainline airlines. For example, at xjt, from January 1st to November 30th, there was total attrition of 733 pilots, 417 of those were FOs, and only 48 of those went to other regionals. The vast majority of FOs are going to mainline.

A few retirements... Lots of people leaving for bigger and better things. We are taking delivery of a new airplane soon (that's right A... As in one) so growth is the least likely reason. We still have a few more options, there is a rumor that those may go fly in Alaska, others believe that they will replace our most tired aircraft. Either way I have moved up over 90 numbers in the last 8 months.

How many pilots are at Envoy? How many planes and pilots are at Piedmont??

Envoy has over 2500 pilots and Piedmont just over 350? Do the percentage math and you'll see. That's why I was saying its better for Piedmont to not get any of the 145's and stay small.
