Even if my pay doubled it wouldn't have an appreciable effect on the cost of a ticket.

It would be interesting to see how much of the annual operating budget of a carrier goes to pilot compensation, executive compensation, MX compensation, etc.

I would love to see honest charts that have this information.

Less than 1% of total operating cost goes to pilot compensation.

It's actually more around 3.5%. In regulation it reached as high as 15%. That's well over $1000hr for a widebody captain. A lot of that paycheck has been passed onto the passengers, and the fuel bill. CEO's pay has been about the same percentage wise.

What is the difference in the minor leagues and major leagues except for supposed talent/experience level?

Minor league baseball is played with real balls and real bats in front of real fans.
Yeah, but major and minor league teams don't play on the same fields at the same time. Regional airlines share the same airports, same airspace, and same requirements as mainline operators do in every aspect.

He took your original statement:

Everyone doesn't have to learn in all glass million dollar new planes.

and "fixed" it to say:

Nobody should be allowed to learn in all glass million dollar new planes.

CLT just changed your original statement to say what he believed to be a more correct statement.

I'll save them two days....pay more at the regional level and there is no longer a shortage.

I understand that many U.S.pilots, who are only thinking about U.S.flying still believe this. It is wrong, because the pilot shortage is worldwide.

I personally think minimum base pay of $14.5/month is pretty good for the-145, and $24.5 is really good for the small Airbus captains.

Ideas: AA/UAL/DAL guarantee pilot training loans and provide 100% flow through with number and date of hire at parent major when starting at the regional. Or, the majors hire high schools grads, just like UAL used to do...back then mins were a diploma and a PPL.

To the contrary, strong evidence supports the notion there are many more pilots in the US than there are airline jobs. See the FAA active airmen stats for example. Those pilots do other things than fly for regionals, like work at Home Depot and sell houses, people like me who left the industry, because the regionals will not support a middle class lifestyle or guarantee anyone a job at a major. So there is no shortage in the US, just an industry that is addicted to cheap labor and wants it to come back again. That's what this summit is really about.
