NWA MEC Reaction to XJ CRJ900's
Just when you think there is light, there is more darkness...
From the NWA MEC Hotline-
"NWA management today announced that NWA intends to place 36 CRJ-900 aircraft, operated with 76 seats (12 first class, 64 coach), at Mesaba Airlines. With Northwest's previously announced plan to acquire Mesaba, the placement of these aircraft at Mesaba constitutes a violation of Section 1 (scope) of the pilot contract. The NWA MEC has previously advised NWA management that this violation would occur if the aircraft were placed at Mesaba. Absent a swift resolution of this issue, the NWA MEC will be filing the appropriate grievance, which will be processed on an expedited basis."

Nothing against the XJers, but I really hope that this flying goes to NWA. If the mainline guys will pick up flying the 900s, maybe they can start to re-claim (or claim for the first time) the RJ flying. This would be good for all who desire to fly for a major someday.

From "Northwest May Buy Mesaba" 1/27/07
SOLUTION
Assign 50 seat CRJs / ERJs to regional contractor (not Mesaba). (To Pinnacle)
Purchase Mesaba (ready made regional airline) (Done)
Incorporate Mesaba personnel into NWA. (Relationship remains to be seen.)
Assign 90 seat CRJs (ERJs ?) to NWA (former Mesaba personnel) (Mesaba - for now)
Establish a "flow through" for crew members. (Depends upon relationship)
RESULTS
NWA Makes money and comes out of bankruptcy. (In process)
NWA senior managers make money on their[Mesaba] stock.
(Mesaba managers will get $1M in bonuses) NWA Management ?
NWA pilots are happy that 50 seats and below go to regionals. (Done)
NWA has regional capability (foil to testy regional contractors) (Done)
Former Mesaba pilots are happy to be part of NWA with flow through. (Happy with CRJs / Flow through ???)
Compass option is cancelled. (It will happen.)
NWA avoids a potential pilot shortage at the "major" level. (Draw from Mesaba)
The relationship between NWA and Mesaba has yet to be formalized (many rumours abound) Will "MESABA" go away and all its assets become part of NWA ? Most small NWA stations are now contracted to Mesaba. Will these personnel and CRJ crew members become part of NWA but on a different pay scale (service and operations of narrow body jets / SAABs). I still believe the "Compass Option" is a leverage mechanism and that ERJs will go to mainline. AFter all the same MEC applies. Contract pilots ???????

In this web sites "airline profiles" (NWA Page) Compass and an unnamed "SUBSIDIARY" will operate ERJ and CRJ aircraft. Updating indicates both Compass and the about to be purchased Mesaba are considered (by this site) to be subsidiaries.
"A subsidiary, in business, is an entity which is controlled by another entity. The controlled entity is called a company, Corporation, or Limited Liability Company, and the controlling entity is called its parent (or the parent company). The reason for this distinction is that an individual cannot be a subsidiary of any organization, only an entity representing a legal fiction as a separate entity can be a subsidiary. This is because individuals have the capacity to act on their own initiative; a business entity can only act through its directors, officers and employees."
Could someone (hopefully with knowledge not opinion) answer the following? Assuming Mesaba will soon change legal status (from MAIR subsidiary to NWA subsidiary), does the number of passenger seat restrictions apply ?
