Bottom line; The more regionals shrink and the more mainline grows, the better off that we all are.

True. Except for the majority who get stuck at what's left of the commuter outfits.

The retirements will take care of that. More mainline flying to be done + continually increasing annual retirement numbers = big upward movement. Keep your logbook current and your powder dry...

If your goal is to rack up time and get yourself to a major ASAP, then don't let anyone's opinions impact what you are going for. But also remember, not all of these "lifers" are just blowing hot air. There are "lifers" out there that went through getting hired from a regional to United, life was good! Then pow, 9/11 happened and a bunch of those people were back on the streets begging for work. Moral of the story. Stuff happens. Nothing in the airline business is guaranteed.
I actually agree with you. 😀😀. Good post.

What you have no control over is the cookie cutter look HR wants to represent their brand, and what vision they have in their minds as what an airline pilot is. HR sillyness.
United wants to hire 7000 pilots over the next 10 years? American is retiring 90% of their pilots in the next 10 years? And there is everyone else too!
There will be opportunity for everyone to move on to a better place than a regional.
The hardest part of interviewing is understanding that it generally isn't about you. If HR is hiring only pilots with X today, and you have Y, then better luck next time. BUT....tomorrow they will take all the Y's they can.

In a shrinking pool of qualified pilots, everyone will get multiple turns at bat. Keep grinding away, focus on safety, and you too will get there.

BTW in the 60's UAL, DL & AA all hired pilots with ZERO time. When you were offered the job they gave you a letter saying you were hired when you got you CML. The bank
Financed your training and presto- ur a pilot now! 1500 min will help everyone flying now.

Well, I wish I could share your enthusiasm, but I've been trying for 19 years to get to "THE SHOW" to paraphrase a great movie, with no luck. So in my case I've been stuck at a midwest state headquartered regional for 10 years, where I never even see the west coast, let alone another continent, and by no means willingly. Not all of us so called lifers want to be, and I know what many a pilot will respond with, so I'll already say it. "Hey, that's life....sucks to be you, huh?"

Honest questions:

Do you have a clean record - airline and criminal (no accidents/DWI's)?
Do you have a college degree?
Have you attended multiple job fairs?
Do you have recommendations?
Do you update your resume/app often?
Have you had a company review your app/resume?
Have you had success at networking (meeting people at the airlines)?
Do you volunteer?

If you have answered yes to all of these, and are still not getting a call from a LCC or a Major, then I feel bad for you. You are one of the unlucky ones. But, there are currently fairly new FO's with 3000 or so hours going to places like Spirit, Allegiant, JetBlue, and 121 Cargo.
