Should I focus on all the limitations or only the bold items on the study guide? What would we be tested on?

Bold items. I spent a lot of time learning a bunch of limitations that I've never actually needed to know or recall once since initial when I could have been focusing on the bold items or deeper systems knowledge.

At what stage should trainees bring their own headset & suit (if required for checkrides perhaps)? I know they send you home after Indoc for a couple of weeks..

Headset? Suit? Neither. Slacks and a polo will suffice for the entire run. Jeans OK in the training center.

That’s all true, but I’m not telling students it’s ok to wear jeans. I only wear jeans if I’m on office hours. No one has ever said anything about students wearing jeans, but it’s a gut feel on my part of this reply. Recurrent seldom wear wear jeans any more.
But summer months, wear long sleeves. The training center has been running cool. I have clas rooms down to 64 or so in the morning, and warms to about 74 with class body heat.

My perspectives only for now.

Please don't be the guy who wears jeans and ruins it for the rest of us. Nowhere did business casual ever mean jeans. I realize some people do it, but those people are usually tools. If too many people do it, expect an over correction in the guidance such as everybody needs to tuck In their shirts, or everybody wear their pilot uniform.

Last year when I went through it was the instructors that said we could wear jeans in the training center, just not in STL or CVG. Most of us all wore jeans. I would still wear slacks the first couple days until the instructors say different.

Indy doesnt care if you wear jeans, they say as much in day 1-3. Just wear nice jeans if you do for your own benefit to not appear unprofessional. You’re there for a few weeks/months, they’ll make assumptions early on and thats your reputation to people who you want to pass you. Flight safety is different, jeans are not allowed (i wore jeans so i was scolded) and you will be told as such. Other than that it never comes up again, youll switch instructors so much they wont know, polo shirts and slacks are the norm. Washouts from my class struggled from situational awareness and automation management. Training isnt bad, you have a set schedule, see the same people every day, Dont deal with irops, And get paid. Do what you need to do to pass and then enjoy your break between loe and ioe. You probably wont get 3-4 weeks paid off again until retirement.

The only time I ever wore jeans was at the training center during EFPTs, outside of business hours (2200-0200 sim slots, don’t miss those). Never wore them at Flight Safety. Slacks and a polo or dress shirt. No need for a tie or jacket, but I wore long sleeves because it’s very cold there for some reason.
