They would fight for 10 hours 121 to upgrade

just an fyi lcc need fos more than regionals and the well of inexperience regional fos has nearly dried up and most of not all are hiring 1500cfis. They aren’t paying for atp ctp as far as I know but they’ll give you a cjo and once you complete the written they schedule a class date. I got hired on with a wet atp at my lcc and left republic before consolidating. Glad I did. I’ve gotten 3x the flight hours as some of my classmates and should be on my way to a legacy much faster.

So genuinely would like to know so I have a chance at LCC? I’m 1500 CFI with a Bachelors in ATC and currently a Part 135 PIC but on a SR22. I recently applied at Frontier and just waiting now. I’ve been debating the ATP CTP cause it’s a lot of money to not get hired. But if they give out a CJO first and then I can get my ATP written done and get assigned a class after that’s a good deal.
From where I sit the real question is how bad do you want a legacy job? The *safest* path to that is go to a regional, upgrade, and then get hired by a competing legacy (they are known to "meter" their own regional CA's so it would probably be faster to go to a competitor.
Legacies are also hiring from LCC's, but if it turns out that you need TPIC to get a legacy call it will probably take longer to upgrade at a LCC.
But since regionals seem to be backed up with FO hiring and training, a LCC might get you on line faster even if the upgrade is longer.

Yes you plausibly have a shot at a LCC. The 135 time should be a bonus since it's a more structured type of operation.

The big four are already getting to the bottom of the barrel, the low tiers like Spirit, Frontier, and Jetblue are moments away from dropping the CTP requirement all together. In the brief interim though you might be able to get on faster by knocking it out.
they are from the regionals as well.

not exactly true. You still have to be competitive with total time and turbine time. Delta just dropped the 1000 turbine time requirement last week. But just because they drop a requirement or barrier to entry doesn’t mean you’re immediately qualified or competitive. Having a type and flying for a lcc doesn’t get you an instant interview like some suggest. Especially if you show up with little to no previous 121 time. For those with 135 time and tons of previous jet time yeah getting the type could be the difference

To add to this: when the hiring at mainline slows to a stop (or, something bad happens to the economy), regional pay is going right back to where it used to be.

To each his own, but if I was in a position to choose between going to a regional or direct to an LCC (which is what I believe the OP was suggesting) I would choose the LCC every time. If the current hiring environment continues, all roads lead to a legacy. But if the economy takes a turn for the worse I’d rather be on the seniority list at Blue Spirit or Frontier as opposed to a regional carrier.
