So it looks like with this new ATP ruling Republic wont be able to get away with giving their new hires that already have an ATP a SIC only type rating after 7/31, is that safe to say?

Most junior Captain on all airframes is a 2007 hire.

The new rules give them until 2016 to get everyone with an ATP the full type but more than likely they will just give it to everyone from here on out.

Or to put into perspective, the most junior CA on the Q400 is a 9/07 hire. At that point in time, upgrades were 18 months on the E145 and 2 years on the E170.

In other words (for the original poster) upgrade times at date of hire mean nothing here

Thank you for the information. Do you guys/gals predict upgrade times then for the new hires to be around 6 years? Or is the flow from right to left seat more airframe specific? Again thank you!

More than likely upgrade will fall considerably from where it is. Around 60-70% of the FOs on our list are 07 hires. Very few pilots were hired from 2008-2011 (relatively speaking) so I imagine it could come down to 2-3 years for those hired right now. Of course, that all depends on attrition. If the retirement age is raised to 67, it would go to 8-9 years.

We just had our first vacancy for ORD on the YX cert which just closed and should be released soon (the displacement bid from DEN is already out). It should be very telling to see how the bids go.

So not much about the Shuttle Certificate. Are things any different over on that side? How is the base seniority over at Shuttle, LGA specifically?

ANY upgrade time you hear is a guess. Expect the worst and hope for the best.

All vacancies are filled in order of seniority (across all certificates), with the following criteria:
  • CAs cannot bid a lower paying position (pay is based on seat count NOT aircraft type)
  • subject to 2-year seat lock.
  • FOs are frozen in type until upgrade
And the company is of course allowed to waive any of these at their discretion, but the reality is that they will only do it if it helps them, not you.

See my above comment on how vacancies are filled
