Wait! Another 10 years? Or the 10 years of my sentence I've already served?

Good news is, in my head, I don't think this place will ever see 190s again, nor anything but orderly reduction in flying.

Read carefully, he used the word "codeshare." That is how the majors can get around the scope clauses, republic airways or Skywest joins the star alliance. They sell a couple tickets on their own website but the majority are sold by United. I haven't read the bankruptcy paperwork but if it is the same type of "codeshare" that united has with Lufthansa and the rest of star alliance, it could be very bad for regional to mainline progression.

Umm no. Republic and/or Sky west can't just join the star alliance. 190s aren't going to the regionals.

Why couldn't they? I guarantee you the more and more expensive the mainline pilots get the more time their management spends thinking about ways they can outsource the job to cheaper labor. Sadly it's the American way now

And currently every legacy restricts aircraft of that size from being outsourced. You're definitely correct about the last couple sentences though.

Is that a Union restriction not allowing the 190s?

If what you mean by that is their contracts forbid it, then yes.

i'm not talking about outsourcing. i'm saying that republic and skywest buy 190's, use their current certificate or create another one if they have to. The paint on the side of the plane will say republic airways or skywest airlines, not united express or delta connection. Then, when a passenger buys a ticket from EWR-ORD-CID, the first leg is a united airlines flight and the second leg is a republic airways flight. It's not different than united selling a connecting ticket on air canada or lufthansa. United codeshares with Air Canada and they fly 190's, how is it any different? (think the expressjet toothpase airline, but sucessfully codesharing with united where united sells 90%of their tickets). skywest and trans states are actually positioned perfectly for this with their MRJ order. They can cancel them if they want at no cost, because the manufacturer missed milestones, if majors don't relax their scope or an idea like mine doesn't come to fruition. Or, they convert their orders in to the larger plane 5 years from now and voila
