I don't know how to link articles, but read and heard Malaysia Airlines has texted and emailed victims families that MH370 crashed in the Indian Ocean. If that's true, how utterly insensitive and crass.

Just watched CNN interview (the CEO?) of Inmarsat. He is saying from more in depth processing of the data they received from the plane, the plane most probably took the "southern route", flew at approximately FL350 and was at about 325 knots. Nothing really new.
Yesterday I read an article, really an opinion piece which stated that Rolls Royce received data from the engines (the same data mentioned above) which shows RPM, fuel flows (the idiot said "fuel state", which is ridiculous), and altitude. I'm pretty sure he was confusing capability with actual fact.
I have seen no interviews with Rolls Royce and have heard no information that the "pings" from the engines (which is how the two arcs of probable travel were derived) provided any information other than simple "handshake", a "here I am" data transmission. Has anyone read or seen and interview with a Rolls Royce employee which says otherwise?
I know our engine monitoring system pushes all sorts of data to maintenance. Story goes a flight from Shanghai to ANC was still on the SID climbing out and they got an ACARS message from maintenance to check engine vibrations on the #1. It wasn't out of limits, but after a texting duel, they decided to divert to KIX rather than continue with the crossing.
It is my understanding that Malaysia didn't pay the man, and their engines didn't have the kind of data package that would have pumped out much detailed info.
Anyone know?

The experience of thier pilot/instructors is conspicuously absent. So likely not even certified 777 instructors giving approved instruction for the purposes of ratings or currency, but essentially hacks of unknown experience giving amusement rides.
The network news media just went another few notches in credibility if there was any left.
THIS race to the bottom for finding any source, regardless of qualifications for a scoop is a story in itself.

Still funny to watch so called experts wiggle their way into 15 seconds of fame. I mean black holes??? Are you freaking kidding me?

It is possible that the individuals requested to be texted of any new information asap. There are companies whose product is information dissemination: announcements go to them, and they shot gun it out in whatever form the subscribers request... including texts.

Some retired general was on Huckabee last night and was saying he was fairly sure that we know where it is and that it's not in the Indian Ocean. He said that if we wanted to find it down there then why weren't we using the Global Hawk drone with it's synthetic aperture radar and long loiter times to find it. He also took a question from the peanut gallery about the low resolution photos of debris. He alluded to the question of whether we have the capability to read licensee plates from space and made it seem obvious that theses photos were BS.

The super high res spy satellites are not geosynchronous orbit over the middle of the Indian Ocean, but regular orbits that take them over areas of high interest like NK, Russia, ME, etc, not the IO

The Washington Post reports in one of its stories re the timeline that at 1:07 local the last ACARS message was received and that according to U.S. officials it denoted that a change of course was programmed into the FMS. This was later refuted by the Malaysian government…whom are we to believe. Sometime shortly after that 1:07 xmision the data stream to ACARS was terminated…there was no 1:37 data stream. At 1:19 ATC receives the “Alright, Goodnight” voice xmision.
Question…IF the ACARS data packet does include the FMS flight plan program, could a change have been entered and detected without it having been executed? This would mean that it could have been entered anytime after the 12:40 takeoff. We are being told that the course did not change until after the xponder shut down after the 1:19 contact.
I’m sorry if I am not expressing myself as clearly as possible, but I am curious to understand the sequence of events early on in the flight. Thanks.
