Quote: It’s funny when people say it doesn’t matter what you get. I’m not sure what the actual spread is, but ~6 months of commuting vs. being in base is a pretty big deal for QOL. Your choice should be based on your personal priorities. Both are great airframes. If waiting ~6 months for your flight deck tray table is important, choose the AB. If you want less commuting 73 is probably a better play. I think schedules and trips are very similar as both are very large fleets and bases in DFW. Training programs for both are excellent. Obviously that is the way it is today, so if you have a class soon, that should be good info. Good luck with your decision.
Since it takes a year to get to Dallas anyway it's a moot point, that was what he was saying.

That however may change at any time. The company is really pimping DFW out as more gates come online next year. They want it to be like an Atlanta that has 1000 flights a day, we are at 800 now and will move toward 900 next year.

I was starting to second guess what I had written... Thanks for the validation. 😑

Super 80 closing and the subsequent displacements also could temporarily change the timeline that was mentioned earlier.

Quote: Roughly the same on all questions, though 73 is a touch more junior at the moment.

But it really doesn't matter which you get at the new hire draft. You have a six month seat lock as a new hire, and it is at least a year to crack into DFW... plenty of time to find out which fleet suits your preferred trip mix / QOL desires.

Thanks for the reply. Understand at least a year, so looking at which base and fleet type is best when choosing as a new hire commuting from DFW?

I know there is many answers to this question, but looking at other people's pros and cons list that have a better understand of life at AA then I do. Which option has better chance of long call first, better QOL, better trips etc. Just trying to make that year the best I can until a transfer etc.

Thanks for the replies.

320 anywhere if you can get it.

737 is slightly more junior (130 numbers) at DFW than the 320 as of 1 Jan. Which one is better? Who knows.

Here's my data: 6 months on property. 3 months to get through indoc, ground school, and IOE. 2 months of short call in NY. October was long call in DCA. Next month I have a line in DCA and I think I'll be able to hold it given the inbounds to DCA in December. DFW looks like it'll be possible with reasonable seniority mid-summer 2019 (I'm a commuter and do not plan to give up a line in DCA for SC in DFW).

There are dudes that were FOs for 20 years and sat short call for 12 years. It might take me 15-18 months to get DFW with the seniority that I want. I am 2.5% into a 20-year career with no complaints!

There are Pilots at DFW on the 737 who are still on probation. DFW 737 by the one year point is totally feasible. 320 is only a little more

This is what people aren’t considering into those timelines.Around 180 DFW FO’s displacing by next September and even possibly junior CA’s that can’t hold DFW CA anymore are going to be a big factor for DFW 320/737 FO. Junior People may get a DFW transfer next year then will likely get displaced out again when that big displacement bid drops.

I know CA’s on the 80 who plan to displace to DFW 777 FO and other senior DFW FO positions.

After 1.5 years I honestly don’t know if I will be able to hold it anymore. Hope DFW continues to replace the 80 with more 737/Bus. Which one grows more and will it be fast enough to let us all stay in DFW? Who knows? Not like they tell us anything to plan ahead.

I think your last paragraph is key. While displacement off the Mad Dog will cause disruption from where things are today, every one of those planes will need to be backfilled with a 737 or an Airbus, creating new lines.

The net number of lines in DFW will be about a wash. But who is in what seat will change in the game of musical chairs.

The 737 is garbage though. Right EMB?
