out of curiosity, what would you call a furlough? A Z-scale for those who are unlucky enough to be caught on the bottom during an economic downturn?

this thing sunsets, whether by increase in demand, or time. No one is advocating a long-term disparity in pay based on date of hire.

They summed it up nicely in the following email. Yes here. This took some effort, and isn’t perfect...

f your motivation in supporting this LOA is simply to keep all your fellow pilots on the property instead of cutting them loose in an abysmal job market and economic recession, we applaud your unionism. If you are not supportive of this LOA and feel that furloughs are just a career hazard, we ask you to consider if the entire pilot group would be better served long-term by ratifying this LOA. Are we stronger and more capable of defending our careers if we keep pilots in their pre-crisis seats? Does protecting all pilots on the seniority list and being ready for recovery position us better to complete Section 6 negotiations, or would it be better to pursue Section 6 negotiations with thousands of pilots on furlough?”

Truthfully. Probably with 1000's of pilots on furlough and a right-staffed airline.

Quote: Correct, but only up to 24 months. Some people were really counting on bypass rights.
And they are revoking the currently available 36 months COLA.

in fact it seems that pretty much all of the LOA 20-02 stuff goes away. not really ideal for planning purposes.

Why should senior pilots fund your salary so you could stay employed? Why should junior pilots be paid more than senior pilots because of carve outs?

This TA is an abysmal abrogation of seniority and a disgusting attempt to divide the pilot group. Being furloughed sucks. Most of the people that will be paying to keep you off the street have been furloughed before, myself included.

Big NO vote for me.

what will they say when in June 2021 United furloughs 2000.

Wife works for a large hospital on the business side. They aren’t even looking at seeing this come down to any normalization until 2022. That is with with a vaccine in 2021.

if you think any of those UAL metrics will be hit you are sorely mistaken. They company already said we will come out of this on the other side significantly smaller.

Call this what it is..Pilots paying salaries keeping furloughs for 8 months. Come June the company will furlough and you will still have your pay cut with low MPGs, lower LPAs to prevent picking up (unless you want to work for free)

oh and if you waited until you were a certain percent to bid a higher paying aircraft. Too bad seniority does not matter anymore. On reserve you go. Don’t like it well you can take the lower paying a/c and forgo the pay. So enjoy even more pay cut.

24 months of restrictions for 8 months of furlough protection...a pay raise AFTER 4 quarters in the black. I am a NO vote.

I was on the ‘D’ scale at EAL before the strike. When we struck, the company gave out the ‘A’ scale rates to the media. No one was making the ‘A’ scale rates at the time. All is fair ... as they say.

Well, if we're going to go there, why should the tax payers fund your salary so you could stay employed? I'm guessing you didn't have an issue with that and I'm positive you didn't give it back.

That said, it's a no vote for me too. I'll take my furlough and my bypass rights thanks.

I’m assuming he is a tax payer too, technically, it was some of his money.
