This TA is an abysmal abrogation of seniority and a disgusting attempt to divide the pilot group. Being furloughed sucks. Most of the people that will be paying to keep you off the street have been furloughed before, myself included.

Big NO vote for me.

What did that fella on the other forum always say...oh yeah "being a union pilot is hard.."

Then consider these 2 points:

1. LTD raise to 11k, with some provisions.
2. “pilots must be offered recallprior to any merger announcement.”

We have an obligation to make every effort for the bottom 3900. If the pilot group votes no, then so be it. The NC and MEC should be thanked that this goes to vote and wasn’t done behind closed doors. But I already have a list of briefing items that won’t be discussed in the cockpit, I can only imagine the radio calls that were missed today...

You guys do recognize that the alternative is all displacements stand, and the LPAs are in the toilet right? So there are going to be massive pay cuts with or without this LOA.

It seems like some people think we are choosing between this LOA and pre-Covid life…

I have not been displaced and have had full pay up until now. This will probably reduce my pay as a senior line holding captain with lots of years left to work. I would be more positive if this had a shorter duration or had a no furlough provision or had some big upside but as it stands I am a no vote.

We will soon see if they put enough carve outs in the making of the sausage...it’s going to be a close vote...

Contract language was codified to make it both expensive and painful to the company to furlough pilots during a downturn or major event. Now that expense and furlough decision is put upon the backs of the pilot union through this TA. We get to decide if we want to be divided by thirds, if we should furlough a fellow union member or take a pay cut, if we should allow a carve out. It’s all on us. The company can now say, “well, the pilots decided they wanted to furlough.” A yes is a vote hoping the demand returns. Let me blunt. Speaking for United, hope is not a strategy,” United President Scott Kirby said at an investor conference.

Personally, I don’t want to travel by air with the family because it’s a pain in the ass. Mask policies, Coronavirus lockdowns, protests, riots, fires are on my shortlist of why I’m not buying an airline ticket. I don’t see a quick return to air travel or this TA being effective. There are a few
short term positives for this depending on your situation, but few long term positives for the group or the company.

Frankly, they should have included a link to an abacus and a ouija board to help in our decision.

Even if they do furlough 2000 in 9 months, maybe 15 months, it still essentially saves all the furloughs over the 2000 for the duration of the agreement.

i’m honestly glad for you and your family. The vast majority of pilots however, are not in your boat.

I think as was stated in the NC email, the main priority of this is to buy us time to hopefully get the company thinking long-term again. I will take that gamble, but I certainly understand why others would not

If they want to furlough more than 2000 in June they can. The way I read it, the TA just goes away at that point.
