I couldn't disagree with you more. The fourth bar doesn't make you better, but it does mean you got through training with higher scrutiny. More importantly, years of PIC experience does makes someone better than they would be without it. I can't believe someone would even debate that.

You're right, it doesn't mean you aren't competent to pass the upgrade, it does mean you will lack the experience that CAs get post-checkride.

Quote: Well in today’s market and my decision to come to PDT I don’t have to worry about going to AA by traditional means. Four bars does not make anyone a better stick or better at making decisions it just gives them the ability to make the final call. There are so many guys out there right now that think they’re the only ones that know how to fly this jet. Do you think that makes them more qualified to go to AA? Arrogance and pride?

Incredible. You shouldn’t have had to take checkrides either right? After all you are competent based on your own judgement, simply tell the FAA yep I’m all set hand over my certificates. Gotta walk the walk before you can talk the talk. Just my opinion.

Quote: I don’t see what the big deal is. Everyone gets their panties in a bunch about losing triple premium but then won’t stop complaining about the crappy schedules or the crappy QOL. Wouldn’t you rather have a better QOL and better schedule every month than have a few trips worth triple premium? I mean for Christ’s sake you’re probably the same person that complains about people taking jobs because they offer better pay but “undermine the industry.”
I’m not really sure how jobs that offer better pay undermine the industry... care to elaborate on that?

I’d rather have better pay and QOL. If that can’t be achieved I’d rather have better pay so I don’t have to work at a second job.

Given the unions amazing performance achieving its mandate of increased pay and time off with the last TA, I very much see the union negotiating jobs away (thus increasing the time it takes for the pilot group to flow) vacation overlap AND triple Premium opportunities with no appreciable change in work rules so everyone remains stuck with 11 days off at 75-85hrs a month on trips with min turn overnights while the company gets to cut back on staffing requirements.

The quickest way to achieve better pay and QOL is to move on from Piedmont either via flow or OTS hiring. If the union is going to give the Company PBS, I expect no less than an increase in the baseline formula to increase our current flow to 10 per month in return which will bring the flow back down to the 6-7 year mark for new hires which is consistent with the amount of time pilots flowing today have spent on property.

What ever happened to flysooner? Did he finally get checked to line as a CA?

He’s been awfully quiet on here lately which is out of character.

Either laying low after a Meet the Chiefs event for Spirit, or they quieted him for disclosing failures to fill NH classes would be top guesses.

Aww you guys miss me. That’s sweet of you. Just been flying the line and building those hours. Also btw don’t think the companies had much trouble filling seats. Especially with the reduced hiring.

How is the line treating you?

Oh about as expected. Biggest complaint is probably the lack of transparency in the scheduling and reserve system. Maybe the rumored new scheduling software will help with that.

It’s not unicorns and rainbows but I never expected it to be. I knew what I was signing up for.

No fun! Next week you were going to be deployed to the border... and the week after abducted by aliens...

“Reduced” hiring is a result of the tail wagging the dog... company is adjusting hiring goals downward as they discover they can’t fill classes like they originally planned...
