Quote: Pay is the same first year. WB trips pay slightly more per day but chances are you will be on reserve for years. Global reserve has different rules than regular reserve and basically you will have 6 days off that can’t be moved, the other 6 or 7 can be. Same call out times. Not sure on utilization. It’s generally advised to go NB first so you can see what you’re getting yourself into and then move up. You can always move up in bands, but you can’t move down for two years, so if you start on 777 you can’t go to 737 unless it’s an upgrade.
Based on the recently class drops, depending on class seniority. It looks there might be a good chance of getting stuck on the bands or WB first. My question is this, what should a junior EWR or DCA 756 FO expect on Reserve? Transcon red-eyes? Europe? I preferred AC coming in would be the 737, but that previous drop only had 3 slots lol…

You will work 18 days per month either flying, short call or field standby. A huge portion of the junior flying has late night all nighters to Europe. LHR is typically the most junior trip but reserves are getting other destinations as well like the unaugmented trips to EDI DUB. Domestic transcons frequently have a red eye but the 756 also does MCO turns from EWR. 777 does more deep Europe than 756. DCA 777 has a daily daytime SFO 2 day…that’s probably a good bet for a reserve as well…but nits day flying.

You will be on reserve on both fleets in those bases until your seat lock is up and you can bid down.

so pretty much if you want any flexibility and chance outside of being a reserve slave for a few years (part of the job I’m willing to accept. Single living out west) try for NB.

It's the same on NB, you just have a line instead.

Quote: Most people on the NBs seem to get it the first vacancy after they’re hired. So anywhere from 0-4 months on property then throw in another few months to get activated assuming vacancies are running regularly.
Great. I appreciate the answer! Looks pretty achievable!

I am not oppose to the Airbus. I am just trying to get the information I need and preparing for worst case scenario. From the general consensus I’ve gathered and please correct me if I am wrong. Do not hesitate to send me a PM either. The bus is a great plane overall, but the trip quality on that side isn’t great. I know NEOs coming onto property will change that. However, that is way down the road.

To me, the Airbus isn’t the worst case scenario

Looks like the bottom third of the class is getting WB in EWR or SFO. If you end up being assigned WB how long would it take to hold IAD and which would be the best WB fleet to get there ASAP?

Right now you can get DCA 756 FO almost instantly… it’s gone to new hires several times in the last few weeks
