Quote: Atlas and Polar are two totally separate airlines. Different Chief Pilots, DOs, DMs. Separate manuals which are clones of each other for the most part. They just share the same mailing address.

Separate certificates but operated by pilots on a common seniority list. This will become a problem for management if the assertion by many of the ground staff in CVG is true. They are saying that they have been told that DHL is totally replacing the 747 lift with 777's within this year. Ok so far except that the vital landing rights in Asia that DHL needs are attached to the Polar certificate and thus can ONLY be operated by aircraft on the Polar certificate with "POLAR" painted in huge letters down the side of the airframe. As it stands only pilots on the current seniority list can operate those aircraft. Another reason that management are desperate to crush scope, force a merged seniority list and arbitrate a scope free bankruptcy style contract. Otherwise pilots currently on the PO/5Y list will have to operate 777's which can be accomplished in short order but does not fit with their dictatorial my way or the highway at all cost style.

Quote: IMO it’s unlikely Polar would be sold, they have the valuable Far East landing rights and DHL owns 49% of Polar. DHL won’t want to give those up. Between the Atlas and Southern AOC’s, Southern has the 777 type certificate and training program and DHL is moving away from the 747. I think if an AOC is sold it would be the Atlas one to Amazon minus most or all of their pilots. Southern and Polar would remain with only 777’s feeding in the international cargo to the Prime Air CVG hub 767’s and 737’s all crewed by new hire Amazon crews.
I’m paraphrasing one of our union attorneys that Scope is a freebie to TA for the company, there’s no economic impacts. The only reason they’re refusing to discuss Scope is the company is planning to do something bad to the pilot group.

I agree that something bad is coming our way. I think however that the company will argue whether it be to an arbitrator or a bankruptcy judge that scope is a massive economic issue and will hinder their plans to satisfy their stock holders unless they get exactly what they need.... and they will get in under either scenario. I have heard from several 767 pilots that when the day of reckoning comes they will be saved by Amazon and the 747 pilots wil be sacrificed, thus they are not bidding for the 747 even though their seniority can hold it. Interestingly I see that one of the Exco members, leading negotiator and current 767 Captain is currently in MIA transitioning to 747 Captain..... I guess he never got the Amazon to the rescue memo.

I wouldn't say bankruptcy would be all that bad for Atlas/Southern. We've all seen it at the regionals and it has been good in the long run. Look at Colgan/Pinnacle/Mesaba ---> Endeavor. It took a while, but now they are smelling like roses.

WOW...... Do you work at Atlas? You are suffering from a negative reality inversion. I don't know where to start to unravel your statement. Those of us here long enough at Atlas have lived through its bankruptcy already and we have never smelled of roses since. Ask any Southern Air pilot how CH11 went for them. You really need to educate yourself as to who you work for if you are an Atlas pilot..... If not then you are excused.

Oh you control who can internet? Cute.

I'm simply saying a restructuring has the possibility of having a beneficial outcome. It takes a very long time to reap any sort of benefits obviously and no pilot would ever want to wait that out voluntarily. Everyone I know there is trying to leave. Many have left to go back to regionals.

I’ve done “Giant” flights in Polar paint, “Polar” flights in Atlas paint and a dozen other mis-matches. Don’t even start about the white ghost KZ planes.

haha that's true... However when we started the 767 operation through NRT with a shiny new DHL painted 767-300F the Japanese authorities ordered the company to operate the flights with "POLAR" painted on the outside of the jets or lose the slots. So freshly painted jets had to go back to the paint shop and get a make over to comply. They allow a certain amount of deviation but if you regularly show up dressed in the wrong colors they will make it an issue. They do watch this and the company has to comply.

Well I guess the administration is trying to reap the dream of destroying Amtrak, this time from within. They had tried revitalization under one of the best-ever airline executives, and a legendary railroad executive, but look who they've hired now...

Whereas the two previous Amtrak heads did their jobs for free, temporarily, and as a labor of love, the new guy plans to get paid, and stay a long time.

We should seriously defund that obsolete garbage. And this isn't me trolling either.
