Does UPS have a seniority calculator? If so, it for internal pilots only, or can you plug variables into it? Currently at a LCC, and pretty happy overall, but I'll be mid-50's before crack the top 2000 pilots. We have almost no retirements for another decade and everything is based on growth, and I've seen where that can end....

We have one through the union. Can play around with average retirement age, that’s about it. It outputs your seniority number (graphical and numerical) each year and displays total retirements and retirements junior to you per year. The big mandatory retirement wave is just building up so getting on now through the next couple /few years would serve you well. Don’t forget, seniority here is not as life changing as it is at a typical pax carrier. If you search posts by me (under FTFF username), I did a post about this a couple of years back. If you don’t want to search, the gist of it was that the only difference in the life of a junior guy vs. a senior guy is the senior guy gets the days off he wants, otherwise they are both flying roughly the same stuff. All relative to fleet and seat of course. This was a common saying around the sort and to some extent it is true. I’d argue this is more relevant between the blocks of 20-50% peeps vs the 51-80% group. The top dogs, with all the privileges top bidding affords, really do (can) live a good life....but dependent on conflict bidding to a noticeable extent. The bottom just feed on the leftovers which, relatively speaking, can be quite alright too. Along those lines, and FWIW, another platitude often spoken here is that there are no truly excellent schedules and no really bad ones either.

Interview on Monday. Pool letter on Wednesday. No CJO yet. How long has it been taking people to get that? Are there any indications of next few classes?

Theres no way to tell if/when you’ll get a CJO, it all depends on how you scored in the interview versus those already in the pool. Unfortunately, it’s not first in, first out of the pool. It’s competitive based on your score. Some people swim for a few weeks and some have been in there 2-3 years or more with no CJO. It would be nice if they would involve the IPA in the process or went with a FIFO method of hiring, but once you’re on property, you’ll understand. It’s one of the -isms of the company- they like to have control.

I don’t recall hearing any recent stories of extremely long pool sits. That could be due to the current hiring environment - people just aren’t waiting around for their number to come up -> taking other offers. My view from the cheap seats suspects they aren’t running a deep pool. Do they still ask for updates to your file as a poolie? I think we did those updates by fax back then(2014), believe it or not... A great opportunity to highlight any changes to your resume while a poolie.

If you are at another 121 carrier, consider jumping through our system during your pool lounging time. Check it all out. Talk to the crews. Get a feel / vibe of the joint. I’d keep going to the job fairs, not specifically for UPS, but definitely make a pit stop.

I am pretty much in the same boat and I am making the move. I think the big question is do you commute? If you do, commuting is a lot easier at UPS. Retirements are in our favor being in our 30s, you are looking at top 25 or less when you retire. UPS is one of the top jobs in the industry, not only because of pay but also benefits Retirement, Health etc. Just my two cents, there are some great guys on the forum who will probably chime in and give you some more insight. It’s a tough choice for sure, good luck in whatever path you choose.
